Climate Changes and Our Future - Now Showing at a Glacier Near You!

By Jerry Dyess

Recent climate changes, also known as global warming, indicate that average increases in temperature around the world are happening because of the carbon dioxide that's increasingly emitted into the atmosphere. No matter where you live, climate change is going to affect you directly. Therefore, it should concern you no matter who you are. Because there are potentially dire consequences as a result of climate change, we need to begin to discuss this problem and take action now before it's too late, and so that others can follow our example. These changes have to be made now so that future and even more catastrophic changes don't happen.

The research does show that heat is being trapped in the atmosphere. Industrial processes, vehicles, and deforestation are producing extra heat, which is increasing average temperatures. Future models project that the planet is over-heating and our environments will be adversely affected in a few years by climate change. Climate change is happening now, but it can be controlled by simple tasks.

What would happen with this type of climate change? Plants and flowers' growth and abilities to survive and thrive will change, as will those of other plants and animals. Glaciers will melt, raise ocean levels, and change weather patterns. Our own activity as humans is what's causing this, of course, and we are also in control of whether or not this can be stopped.

If this is allowed to continue, animal and plant species will dwindle and eventually may become extinct. And lest you think this will not affect you as a human, think again. Because every living thing depends on everything else, we alter our food chains and destroy species. Animals themselves already don't have food to eat such that they're becoming extinct, and our own food source will be in danger as a result.

Future generations are sure to experience intense weather patterns, which will increase death tools. The economy will be negatively impacted in many ways due to climate changes. For example, wheat fields and coffee bean plants will be destroyed by intense storms. That in turn, increases prices at the grocery stores. And never mind the economy, changes in weather patterns will increase death tools during increased hurricanes, tsunamis, and storms.

Where does all of this extra carbon dioxide come from? It comes from industrial pollution and from carbon dioxide emissions from cars. Restrictions are beginning to be put in place such that this type of carbon dioxide emission is minimized. We can decrease these climate changes through carbon dioxide over exposure if cars and industries themselves reduce emissions by 3% year.

Everyone can help contribute to slow down global warming. Some simple household tasks that can help decrease climate change are recycling, planting a tree, weatherizing your home, and replacing old appliances. Some other tasks include eliminating plastic, buying a fuel-efficient car, and car-pooling to work or school. Younger generations need to be educated about how humans negatively impact their environments and need to be directed on what changes to make for future generations.

At present, climate changes are already evident and will continue to drastically and negatively affect the future if something isn't done. We can make changes now that will positively impact our future if we pay attention. Simply by reducing carbon dioxide emissions and increasing the amount of oxygen in our atmosphere, we can reduce the carbon dioxide covering the planet and causing the temperature increases.

Climate changes will impact our future, but we can all help to slow it down and then maybe focus on reversing it. Time is not on our side when it comes to climate changes in the future.

Have A Clean Slate With Your Low Teacher Salary

By Jurinsthea Smith

Even if educators spend much effort in educating students, at the end of the month they still have very low teacher salary. Whether under a private or a public school, their pay is much lower than those in the service of product companies. It oftentimes takes a great deal of effort for mentors to budget their salary until the next payday.

I also experience the same scenario because I am a teacher myself. What is difficult in this situation is looking your hard earned money disappear almost instantly. At some point, your salary will be exhaust to pay debts. At the day's end, what remains is nothing - not even a penny for me to spend. And this is something I want to avoid for other educators. Therefore, I present to you some solutions that have proven successful on my end, on managing our low teacher salary. I hope some of these are valuable and applicable for your implementation.

Solution # 1: Clear the debts. Although debts are part of our lives as much as possible use your salary to clean up your previous loans before. If you have debts from credit cards or banks, it is necessary to put aside some money each pay day or even take majority of your salary to pay the amount slowly. The longer you delay the payment, the higher the interest will be and the more difficult it is for you to cope with the payment.

Solution # 2: Prioritize things. It is a necessity for you to consider what area of your life you should allocate your teacher salary. Whenever possible put an important factor on the ones you need for instance for your card company or bank. In order of priority, you will see that there are expenses that are not needed, such as shopping, thus try to stay away from the desire to splurge. What is needed now is to ensure that your salary will be used for debts and necessary expenses like food, bills and your shelter. You can also divide some few portions on other stuffs so as long as you have allocations on the basics.

Solution #3: Sacrifice. If you think your salary is not enough to pay your huge debts and endless interests and some home expenses, then the next big step is to sacrifice. When speaking of sacrifice, you need not deprive yourself of some simple pleasures. This is just a small escape route for you. For example, you can cut probable expenses like electricity in some lights and appliances. Or you can find a second job that somehow adds to your cash flow. This may be difficult, but this is an important thing to do.

These are just some of the solutions in the larger scale of things that can gradually raise you from your current debt situation. It's just a question of how effective you are in managing your spending, and debt finances. Also, how resourceful are you is also a big plus. When we look at the perspective of things, there really is no such thing as low teacher salary; it is only question of successful you are in managing your money.

Teaching, Learning, and Knowledge

By Jay Polmar

How do we teach one another? How can it be that we were instructed in everything that we now know?

At some points in history, knowledge was elitist and even a forbidden concept. In 399 BC, Socrates explained that he was known as the wisest of all men since he understood that he knew nothing. Socrates was ultimately executed because of his unyielding questioning to the Athens population to find out how they knew all the things that they knew.

In this days, we still ask Socratic questions and have yet to fully understand the answers; however, technology is bringing us closer and closer.

Science and technology discovered is that the human brain is capable of processing from 10,000 to 50,000 units or single words in one minute. But, these are older statistics from the 1980s, but new technology studying speed reading combined with brain development research indicates that you can most likely read even faster. Most high school graduates read 200 words per minute, down from 252 wpm from 25 years ago. College students, only one or two years older, have improved to 120% words per minute simply from having to read so much and the brain practicing reading so much. Regardless, of your beginning reading speed "it increases for 50-60% the first day is more than likely, in two days of reading practice " youve doubled your reading speed.

The brain is a computer composed of human organic materials. If you were to consider your brain as the hardware (CPU = Central Processing Unit or a computers own brain) and your mind (the thoughts you think) as the software, you wouldnt be far from what the scientists evaluating the brain believe; that the mind and brain are component parts of our physical bodies is to give us an efficient way to learn more things.

The human mind is connected to our physical bodies to make life more convenient for us to learn and succeed. This amazing tool allows us to absorb a universe of knowledge in many different ways.

Childhood education creates the first limitations to reading ability. Heres what the first two years usually look like to a young learner of language: 1. First, we are introduced to the alphabet and how each letter sounds. 2. Then, we move on to put letters together into syllables and hear their unique sounds. 3. Later, we formed words and their individual pronunciations. 4. Then, we progressed to sentences and lastly paragraphs, which we read loudly.

In that learning method, we move our lips slowly and carefully so that we would pronounce each syllable and each word clearly. There were entire classes dedicated to learning how to read out loud.

We did pronounced every single word correctly, and then we were praised by our teacher and we felt the thrill and excitement because we were learning so well. Soon, it was determined that we could indeed read, so we no longer read in the classroom out loud. Most of us, however, were still concentrating on the syllables and reading each word out loud to ourselves for confirmation. This phenomenon, called sub-vocalization, is what causes us to have the 200-300 words per minute limitation to our reading speeds in high school and University. Interestingly, its the same speed at which most people talk (unless you live in the Southern US and have learned the Southern Drawl that slows you down even more).

Theres been experiments to show that high school students that use speed reading methods can double their reading speed. When these techniques are practiced on a regular basis, the results are even more impressive.

With the power of the brain and mind combined, you can stretch out and achieve far greater skills. In fact, the amount of words that can be read per minute has no bounds. It is only a persons inner voice that can limit us, stop us and confuse us while reading or studying.

These voices tend to Babble On while you are struggling to perform tasks, such as reading. It is that same voice, that can make you panic before an exam. It is only when you quiet this Babblers voice that you can truly transfer and speed read material at a phenomenal rate.

SPEED READING can assist you to overcome slow reading habits created from your early education. You can then retrain yourself to read faster.

It is remarkable how your brain and mind have the ability to absorb thousands of bits of information in a small amount of time. You are like many people that read slowly on account of early education. You are slowed down when you are mouthing syllables and words. Even though you have developed these bad habits in early education, its great to know that from this moment on, you can retrain yourself to be a powerful SPEED READER and your potential is limitless.

One benefit of Speed Reading is that it can assist you in reading and understanding written information much quicker. Speed Reading is useful in careers, especially where you are required to master large volumes of information quickly. Many people run into burn out from information overload. Speed Reading assists you to absorb and retain, for later recall, all the information that you read.

Buffalo Beats Struggling Carolina

By Ross Everett

Carolina Panthers' quarterback Jake Delhomme is having a season he'd like to forget, and things got even worse on Sunday at home against the Buffalo Bills. Despite dominating the Bills on the stat sheet, Delhomme threw three interceptions that allowed Buffalo to take a 20-9 victory over the struggling Panthers. Delhomme threw for 325 yards, though without any touchdowns. His three picks pushed his total for the year to- which leads the NFL.

Buffalo rewarded NFL pointspread players with the outright victory as +7 road underdogs. The Bills have covered four of their seven games this season, while the Panthers have an awful record against the spread-they've only covered once this season for a 1-5 ATS mark.

The Bills' Terrell Owens was again a non-factor, but gave credit to the defense for earning the victory:

"You can't really complain about a win. Defensively, those guys are keeping us in ballgames."

Buffalo defensive end Chris Kelsay commended his team's victory on the road:

"Never once on the sidelines was there any doubt that we were going to win the game. Regardless if it's an ugly win over not, it's hard to win in this league."

Ryan Fitzpatrick started at QB for Buffalo in place of the injured Trent Edwards and was solid, if not spectacular. Coach Dick Jauron observed:

"He made the plays when we had to make them."

Panthers' coach John Fox has said he's going to're-evaluate' whether the struggling Delhomme should continue to start, and even the quarterback himself couldn't make an emphatic case that he should keep his job:

"In my heart, yeah, but I mean let's be honest, I don't think I'm a dummy. When you're not playing well offensively, you always have to look at the quarterback."

The Panthers' schedule doesn't get easier this week as they head west for a game against the improving Arizona Cardinals. Carolina is a +9 road underdog with the total set at 43'. They'll head south the following week to face the red hot New Orleans Saints before returning home on November 15 to take on the Atlanta Falcons. Buffalo will host the Houston Texans this weekend, with the game currently off the board due to injuries on both teams. They'll have their bye week after that and will return to action on November 15 against the Tennessee Titans.

Bengals Blast Struggling Bears

By Ross Everett

Former Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson got revenge on the team that let him go in the best possible way. Benson amassed 189 yards rushing and led his new team, the Cincinnati Bengals, to a 45-10 rout over the visiting Bears on Sunday. Carson Palmer threw for five touchdowns with no interceptions in the blowout victory. Cincinnati improved to 5-2 with the win while Chicago dropped to 3-3 on the NFL season.

The Bengals also made short work of the NFL pointspread, easily covering as +1' home underdogs. Cincinnati improved to 4-3 against the number while Chicago evened their ATS mark at 3-3. The 55 combined points sailed OVER the posted total of 42'. The Bengals have gone OVER in four of seven games this year while the Bears evened their NFL totals mark at 3-3.

A happy Benson described his feelings after the win:

"Everybody knew it was going to be an emotional day. Everybody knew. What a wonderful day and a wonderful thing, to go out there and strut your stuff."

Despite the evidence to the contrary, Benson downplayed the motive of revenge:

"I continue to be as graceful as I can be. I'm not shoving anything in anybody's face. Like I say, it wasn't a revenge day for me. I just wanted to take advantage of the opportunities."

He said his biggest problem was trying to keep his emotions in check and play under control:

"There were a few times where I may have gotten a little too hyped up, a little too antsy. A couple of drives, I found myself having to calm myself down and gather my emotions to stay poised. Once I got past that, we were good to go. Keep it rolling."

Bengals' receiver Chad Ochocinco had 10 catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns. He shared his thoughts postgame:

"I don't understand why it went this way today and why it didn't go that way last week or the week before that. The offensive line played unbelievable. For Ced to run the way he did today and for us to be able to throw, we could have done what we wanted to do."

Chicago gave up more points than in any game all season, a fact that left defensive end Alex Brown looking for answers:

"That was pretty embarrassing. It's embarrassing to come out and play like that. I tip my hat to their whole team. Cedric ran the ball like crazy. They did whatever they wanted to do."

The Bengals will enjoy a bye week before hosting the Baltimore Ravens on November 8. They'll then play two games on the road at Pittsburgh and Oakland. Chicago will try to get back on track this Sunday as they host the Cleveland Browns. The Bears are -13' home favorites with the total set at 40. They'll host the Arizona Cardinals the following Sunday before heading west for a Thursday night game against the San Francisco 49ers on November 12.

UK Based Cisco CCNA Retraining Clarified

By Jason Kendall

The CCNA is the usual starting point for all training in Cisco. With it, you'll learn how to handle maintaining and installing routers and network switches. Basically, the internet comprises of vast numbers of routers, and many large organisations who have various regional departments rely on them to keep their networks in touch.

Achieving this qualification means you'll probably end up working for large companies who have many locations, but still need contact. Alternatively, you may find yourself employed by an internet service provider. These jobs are well paid and in demand.

The CCNA qualification is more than adequate; don't be pushed into attempting your CCNP. After gaining experience in the working environment, you can decide whether you need to train up to this level. If you decide to become more qualified, you'll have the experience you need to tackle the CCNP - because it's far from a walk in the park - and ought not to be underestimated.

Authorised simulation materials and exam preparation packages are crucial - and should definitely be supplied by your course provider.

Make sure that your practice exams aren't just asking you the right questions on the correct subjects, but ask them in the same way that the proper exam will structure them. This completely unsettles trainees if they're met with completely different formats and phraseologies.

Why don't you test your depth of understanding by doing quizzes and mock ups of exams to get you ready for the real deal.

When was the last time you considered your job security? For the majority of us, we only think of this after we get some bad news. But really, the lesson often learned too late is that job security has gone the way of the dodo, for nearly everyone now.

Security can now only exist via a fast rising marketplace, driven forward by a shortfall of trained staff. It's this alone that creates just the right conditions for a secure market - a more attractive situation all round.

With the computing industry for instance, a recent e-Skills analysis showed a skills shortage throughout Great Britain around the 26 percent mark. That means for each 4 job positions available around the computer industry, there are barely three qualified workers to fill that need.

Acquiring in-depth commercial computing qualification is thus an effective route to succeed in a long-lasting and rewarding career.

It's unlikely if a better time or market conditions could exist for getting certified in this quickly expanding and developing business.

Proper support should never be taken lightly - ensure you track down something that provides 24x7 direct access, as not obtaining this level of support will severely hamper your progress.

Never purchase certification programs which can only support students with a message system when it's outside of usual working hours. Training organisations will always try to hide the importance of this issue. But, no matter how they put it - support is needed when it's needed - not when it suits them.

Top training companies have many support offices around the globe in several time-zones. Online access provides the interactive interface to join them all seamlessly, no matter what time you login, there is always help at hand, with no hassle or contact issues.

Find a training school that offers this level of study support. Because only live 24x7 round-the-clock support provides the necessary backup.

Most people don't even think to ask about something of absolutely vital importance - the way the company segments the courseware sections, and into how many parts.

Delivery by courier of each element stage by stage, taking into account your exam passes is how things will normally arrive. While sounding logical, you might like to consider this:

What if there are reasons why you can't finish every section? And what if the order provided doesn't meet your requirements? Without any fault on your part, you might take a little longer and not receive all the modules you've paid for.

To avoid any potential future issues, many trainees now want to insist that all study materials are sent immediately, and not in a piecemeal fashion. It's then up to you in which order and at what speed you'd like to take your exams.

Easily Find Angel Investors, Private Investors, Hard Money Lenders and Venture Capital Firms

By James Scott

How To Find All The Angel Investors And Venture Capital Financing You'll Ever Need! The once definitive line that would separate hard money and private/angel financing has merged into a hybrid of sorts in the past few years. As the economy has taken a dive and structured private lending firms have felt the crunch we are finding many of these lending solutions closing its doors and re-opening as privately owned and managed funding options with an interest in both lending and seed investment.

Approval decisions that were once made by a group are not being made by an individual or duo with an eye toward optimal capitalization with both short term and long term agendas. As investors are, now more than ever, trying to get as much bang out of their buck, entrepreneurs are in the precarious position of accepting funding from virtually any and every enterprise that is making an offering. That said, it is more important now than ever to swing open your mind to the possibilities of mass exposure of your opportunity to the investment world.

The best way to do this is to simply put your business in constant and automated 'introduction' mode so that you can be found by the moneymen. The best way to do this is to heavily investigate the venture capital industry for executives who have created offshoot programs that have deviated their process from the traditional path of simply approving or declining a transaction.

There are many VC professionals who want to capitalize off of the projects that their firm cannot accept due to underwriting criteria and industrial genre specialization so they are starting these small but well managed financial source databases where members can place their transaction directly in front of thousands upon thousands of angel investors, private investors, hard money lenders, venture capital firms, private equity firms and other alternative finance solutions.

These websites are now the hottest thing in the capital markets and will continue to grow because of the high success rate of individual executives and entrepreneurs who are able to find multiple streams of financing options with the click of a button.

The Magic Of Tithing

By David Anttony

History of Tithing

The origins of tithing can be found in the Bible, yet many Christians and non-Christians alike, practice some form of tithing today.

Tithe is conventionally a Christian term that signifies the contribution of one tenth of one's earnings as donation to one's Church as a type of Church giving. However, every other religious system has similar practices within itself. In Islam the word used is 'Zakat'. In the Sikh religion of India the name for it is 'Dasvandh' which again signifies setting apart a tenth of one's earnings for pious acts. It was Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru who started the practice. The sacred texts of Hinduism like the Bhagavadgita and the Upanisads state that 'true alms' is that which is given as a part of one's duty in the right place and at the right time to a worthy individual, from whom nothing is expected in return.

The origin of the word tithe can be traced to the Hebrew work 'asair' which also means to give one-tenth of a thing, generally an individual's income. Today, tithes, or tithing, is a cash payment and is voluntary in nature. Nevertheless, in certain European countries there is still the provision for enforcing tithing by allowing the church to make it mandatory.

Denmark is a case where the Church of Denmark members have to pay a church tax, which is different in different municipalities. It is commonly about 1% of a person's taxable income. The situation is similar in Finland where members of state churches have to pay a tax which can be anything between 1% and 2.25% of income and these taxes form a part of the common national taxation system.

But still tithing as a confirmed tradition was established only after Exodus. Tithes were routine in the olden days through much of the Near East and also later in Carthage, Lydia, and Arabia.

The Hebrew custom of giving tithes finds mention in the Bible, starting with the gift from Abraham to Melchizedek, the Canaanite king and priest (Genesis--:20). Tithing was also common in former Lydia, Carthage and Arabia. The practice of tithing was espoused by the early Christian church, and was discussed in councils at Tours in 567 and at Macon in 585. Formal recognition to these was given under Pope Adrian I in 787.

The practice of tithes in some Christian churches is contentious for the reason that it is putting into operation an Old Testament idea to a New Testament establishment (the Church). No proof is available in the New Testament that tithing can be applied to Christians. Actually, it was mandatory only for Jews living in the promised land to pay the tithe even according to the Old Testament, as it was in practice a form of income tax that was necessary to help not only the government of the then Israel, but also the shrines and the priestly class.

Present day Tithing

Despite it's origins in the Bible and ancient Christianity, today it is a special way to give every time you receive. Giving EVERY time you receive is such a powerful form of giving because it allows the giver to experience something incredibly powerful - more on that later.

Let us have a little more of history. Malachi 3:10 is the section of the Bible that Christians hold in importance when they deliberate on tithing. Many Christians do tithe to their church as they feel that they are duty bound to do as per the rules of the Bible. Many Churches have all throughout maintained that their members should tithe to the church to help it conduct its activities. The core of giving is its voluntary nature and its delightful experience, without which it does not get its ideal effect - if in fact you are hoping to create an ideal effect by giving.

Controversy about Tithing

Tithing has often been a contentious topic. The issue whether a Christian should pay tithe is often argued in many Christian congregations.

In an article in Wall Street Journal regarding tithing named 'The Backlash Against Tithing', Suzanne Sataline says, 'As Churches push donations, congregants balk; 'that's not the way God works'.'

Regrettably, the different ideological perspectives, desire to dominate, and a narrow outlook, can lead to a Jekyll and Hyde scenario - the pure goodness of giving being lost in the fog and misinterpretation of religion. In spite of the disputes, tithing is still a fully and marvellously powerful act that any person can do to turn around their lives to face a fuller pathway.

For those who are interested in finding out more about a Christian perspective in tithing there are plenty of materials to go through. For those who are keen on knowing the reason WHY tithing is so compelling, what follows will be useful.

Why is Tithing so powerful?

This is indeed a powerful question because if you just mindlessly follow something without knowing some key background pointers you may be heading in the wrong direction.

If more people who are in the habit of tithing knew exactly why it works when done with the feeling of total giving, then it is likely to make people eager to give even more. And for those who do it intermittently, it could encourage them to give first every time they are in receipt of something.

To analyse the real 'why' of how routine giving leads to more we have to understand something about Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Physics. The laws of these realms vary a lot from that of our own material or Newtonian world.

The movie 'What the Bleep' describes the quantum world through simple examples. The movie segment linked below describes a little about how matter becomes waves and acts like fluids when observed from a quantum physics perspective : http://video.yahoo.com/watch/1349535/4653525.

The movie paints the picture of a startling world visible from a quantum space. When a line of electrons is fired through a plate with a cut in it onto a wall - predictably, it would hit the wall straight across the cut in a single line.

If the same experiment is done using an energy wave that has the properties of a water wave, again one can get an expected outcome. As the surge hits the plate the tendency for the wave is to ricochet but still because of the cut, some parts of the wave goes in through that cut. Emerging from the cut, the wave spreads out in an arched way, thus resulting in a new wave more or less similar to the old wave. It is exactly like the experiments one would have done in smaller classes regarding the behaviour of waves. It hits the wall opposite with a lot of force at the point just opposite the cut and hits with lesser strength all around the wall. This is just like the pattern the electrons create.

If we created one more opening in the plate, again the upshot would not be totally unexpected while experimenting a wave - two smaller waves would be formed through the openings and when the waves come into contact, they would dissolve each other and make an intervention pattern. Many waves would now strike the wall across, giving a stripped effect. These are standard patterns of wave behaviour and so there is nothing unexpected in the result.

Now this is where the quantum experiment gets interesting. With the two slits in place if electrons were fired at the plate we would expect to see two lines to be created on the wall. But guess what - instead a stripped affect appears - an interference pattern is created! This is totally unexpected. Somehow the matter had changed into a wave. You would think that electrons were bouncing off each other creating a wave; so then if you fired the electrons one at a time and then see what happens. The result is the same! This can only happen if the electrons leave as a single particle, splits into a wave of potentials when it hits the plate, passes through both splits and then interferes with itself on the other side of the plate. This is simply amazing - matter behaving like a wave - or solid behaving like a liquid. Maybe the world is different to what we think it is after all!

Despite the apparent 'solidness' of this world that we live in, it would appear that actually we live in a world that is more like a liquid - liquid energy or flux, which behaves like liquids in our physical world. And as we know from simple physics that fluids of a similar nature always come together and those of a dissimilar nature move apart and separate into clear areas of distinction. Oil and water is a simple example of this. Chromatography also shows the effect very graphically when a single substance can separate into its individual substances in clear bands much like how large groups of people split off into smaller groups of similar interest, energy or intention.

The essence of it is that we feel total fulfilment when we give a thing to another. The act of giving, the sense of bliss of it, is the greatest of all gifts. It is wrongly understood that he who is in receipt of the object is the only receiver and people fail to notice that it is the one who gives who is the real recipient. If you're not still convinced, then look at yourself among children and see how fulfilled you become when you give to them whatever their reaction be.

When we appreciate that we are actually giving to ourselves when we give and that we do this because we want to feel satisfied then we have an answer. This answer unlocks the door of cognizance to giving. And when we give again and again the impetus builds up just like a swelling wave that grows larger the more we put in to it with our idea of our bountifulness.

The truth that we feel happy when we gift things alters our power equation fully - we feel good and in that moment we are lovelier to others. Have you ever known a vendor on the street peddling things that we do not want like tissues, which you usually do not buy, but one day you buy and the motive for doing it is just to see that vendor happy and relieved? A similar situation could be seen in relations to buskers playing music at a street corner.

Someone who is joyful exudes a natural attraction that draws others in and in doing so draws in better life experiences. It is simple. They attract to them those who are either wanting to experience that feeling or those who already experience it.

Exactly like water and oil, those who give and those who do not give are compartmentalised in different groups. And the ideal place where one can receive something is there where givers congregate! But you can remain in that group only as long as you gift things! Givers enjoy giving to others who give.

So even if we may turn to quantum physics for our solutions, they are very much there right in front of us. Similar attracts similar - simple. Wherever you look you see this going on. Lions group together with lions, students interact with students, women form groups with women, men makes friends with men, 'poor' likes to be with 'poor' people and 'rich' with 'rich' people. And in the same way - givers prefer the company of givers.

So if you give from a sense of self-reproach then it will only boomerang on you - you will just attract to you like-minded others who have a guilt complex and cannot be contented and delighted. The borderline between remorse and anger is narrow; so people gifting things out of a sense of guilt tend to turn in that direction. Joy is one of the highest of human emotions - and from there one can only turn to love - and that is what all of us are forever searching for.

So when you start giving you are two steps away from love - pretty amazing to think that isn't it. Especially seeing most people are desperately seeking love. Now we know the answer is simple - go get giving! And of course giving money is just a small part of giving - giving in general will create a space of joy for us, no matter how 'small'.

There is also a mental aspect to giving steadily. Even though at first this facet of it may not seem related to the feeling of happiness - in the end it right away brings us into contact with the supreme experience of joy.

When we share an item with someone - particularly something that we ourselves do not possess in abundance - we are sending a persuasive communication to our own brain that life is trustworthy. When we give something and later analyse the act we are connecting with the trust. The converse of trust is terror. So again, a group of terrified people are not likely to be happy and fine and so no one would find them appealing. On the other hand, a gathering of trustful people would themselves be happy and would attract many others to share their perfection. So finally when we believe the belief gets transformed into happiness and again we are very near to love - the most important thing that all of us are searching for.

So the essence that has been forgotten over the ages is right here today for anyone to connect with simply and easily. My son received a lot of money for Christmas and I asked him what he was going to do with it. He said he was going to save most of it. I asked him how much he was going to give. He had not considered that an option until I shared it with him. What would happen if the first thing we did when we received was to give some away - do you think we would experience more joy

Transaction based giving - or transaction based philanthropy

This takes us to the force of transactional giving. Many enterprises give when they have enough of money to give. When they do not have much they do not prefer to give. So their possible levels of joy fluctuate depending upon market variations - they do not have any restraint. But whoever gives EVERY time they get something is in charge and has their relationship with perfect joy forever.

Transactional giving rather than single payments is connected with the ups and downs of profit so it is an easy way of giving. The rule is that whenever you get something you give proportionately - easy. If you have a bad season you might give, but less depending on sales. And when business is better one can give more.

One of the major secrets of transaction based enterprise is that you can partake in the joy of giving so perfectly with all concerned - clients/society - staff - and enterprise. In this scenario customers understand that when they buy something they are also giving though it does not cost them anything other than choosing and shopping with you they feel power of the giving - that is why the traditional CSR - Corporate Social Responsibility, gets transformed into Customer Social Responsibility, with the customer responding perfectly to giving just by appreciating you and have that extra cause, though an elusive one, for preferring to do the shopping with you.

Your personnel will also be able to partake in the happiness of giving as every time they manage to close a sale, they realise that they have managed to give something to a needy person. This is an extremely satisfying experience especially in a team as it can get converted into motivating the team and encouraging the staff.

Any commercial transaction, including profitless ventures, can do Buy1GIVE1 transaction-based giving - there are absolutely no prohibition to entering and the business decides most of it. The charity amount per operation starts from just a single cent and rises up to any amount of dollars with each venture choosing his or her own level of donating and giving to help and support completely based upon their business type and productivity. There is absolutely no reason to refuse to donate in this manner when the advantages of giving are so endless. Commercial ventures that are presently giving to a purpose can change very fast and without difficulty to Buy1GIVE1 transaction-based giving while continuing to support the same issue delivering more visible results to their enterprise.

At the end of the day commercialised giving is the current day reincarnation of tithing that is simple and manageable for any person, anywhere. Now that we recognize that it is not about the amount that we give such as a specific percentage, but only about the fact that we are giving that is making all that effect. When we enter the brotherhood of givers we move into a restricted and exclusive world that only those who give can enter. And if you do not begin giving today, you may not 'get' giving and never will till you begin. So get going.

'We're not here to gift in order 'to take.' We want more to be able to give more.

Del Mar Racetrack: 'Where The Surf Meets the Turf'

By Ross Everett

Though it is sometimes overshadowed by more famous tracks back East like Churchill downs and Belmont Park, Del Mar Racetrack in Southern California has a rich and fascinating history. Located 20 miles north of San Diego and known for its iconic slogan "Where The Surf Meets the Turf", Del Mar has not only hosted the best horses and jockeys on the planet but a 'who's who' of show biz elite.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club was founded by a group of well heeled enthusiasts in the mid'30s, and they immediately turned their attention to building a world class horse racing venue. The names that were instrumental in the creation of Del Mar include a whos who of American entertainment--most notably Bing Crosby, Oliver Hardy (of Laurel and Hardy) and Jimmy Durante. At the time the facility opened thoroughbred horse racing was the second most popular sport in America behind major league baseball, and Del Mar quickly gained a reputation for being a player in the industry.

The starpower drawn to the course was unprecedented. Bing Crosby himself greeted patrons at the gate on opening day, and during the late'30s and early'40s it became a place to be seen for Hollywood A-listers and those who aspired for celebrity. In addition to known gambling enthusiasts like W.C. Fields, Edgar Bergen and Red Skelton, the Del Mar patrons during that time also included some of the top female stars of the era including Ava Gardner, Paulette Goddard and Dorothy Lamour

In'38, Del Mar hosted an internationally anticipated match race between Seabiscuit and Ligaroti. This event drew a record crowd and gained worldwide notoriety for the track. Seabiscuit won the $25,000 winner-take-all duel by a nose, and would forever be enshrined in the annals of American popular culture. Horse racing at Del Mar continued to be a smash until the facility went dark in'41 due to World War II. It would remain closed until'45, and for a time was used as a training facility by the military.

After the war, Del Mar reopened with a bang. The track reopened the day after Japan formally surrendered to Allied forces, and on that day Del Mar attracted over 20,000 fans through its gates who wagered what at the time was a record $958,476. The postwar prosperity was also a boon to Del Mar, which also benefitted from the Santa Fe Railroads daily Racetrack Special that brought bettors down from Los Angeles to enjoy a day at the track. During the latter part of the decade a new crop of Hollywood glitterati would flock to Del Mar, including Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Mickey Rooney John Holmes, Frank Sinatra and Jimmy Durante. Durante would become such a regular that the turf course at Del Mar would later be renamed in his honor.

Even though the popularity of horse racing among the mainstream populace would ebb over the years, Del Mar remains a viable part of the thoroughbred community to this day. Theyve updated their facility, with a state of the art grand stand and most recently a synthetic polytrack surface that was installed in 2007. The racing season at Del Mar begins in mid July, and hosts crowds of 20,000+ on a daily basis throughout.

Subconscious Mind Secrets And Myths

By Geoff Vincent

Let's face it; practically everyone in the world today is aware of the fact that they have a subconscious mind. In fact, when things go wrong in our lives, many people immediately place the blame on their subconscious mind. Unfortunately however, not many people seem to realize just how powerful the subconscious mind can be, and that it can be your best friend or your worst enemy, in that it is your subconscious mind which ultimately controls the way in which you live your life. Perhaps you are wondering what exactly is a subconscious mind, and why it's essential for people to pay close attention to what the subconscious mind is thinking?

Even though many professionals insist on arguing the point, the human race has by all accounts acknowledged the fact that the subconscious mind does indeed exist. Basically, the subconscious mind is like a mind within your mind. It is the part of you which controls and directs your actions and also your thoughts. It's that little voice in the back of your head that you always hear when you're faced with a difficult situation. The way in which a person's subconscious mind communicates with them differs from one person to the next, meaning that no two people have the same type of subconscious mind. Even if you have an identical twin and you were both raised in the same environment, under the same conditions, you will both have a different inner voice.

If you take a minute to think about it, you'll realize that you've often heard your inner mind communicating with you. For example, you could have been on the brink of making an extremely important decision when something in your mind told you to back off. Hopefully, if you did back off, it was the right thing to do. Unfortunately though, that self same inner voice can also be a hindrance, in that it can often tell you that you cannot do something, when in fact there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to. It could for example manage to convince you that you're simply not good enough, or that you're not very attractive. As such, we can see that the subconscious mind is in essence what you think of yourself deep down.

When you're having deep thoughts and your subconscious mind is telling you negative things, then there's very little chance that you'll end up enjoying your life the way you should. Fortunately however, there is something you can do in order to change the way you feel about yourself. In fact you can make your subconscious mind say good things rather than bad so that you can live your life in happiness.

For example, many people firmly believe in the power of affirmations in order to change the way they think. These are essentially statements of a positive nature which one can repeat to oneself several times throughout the course of each day. The beauty of this is that there's no need to spend vast amounts of money, simply because you can do it all by yourself, at home or even at work. Just take a moment to think about what aspect of your life you'd like to change, and then start thinking about yourself.

If you would like to stop smoking for example, then instead of thinking that you cannot kick the habit, you should rather be thinking how good it feels to be a non smoker. You should write this down on a piece of paper so that you can carry it around with you and read it to yourself whenever the need arises. You could of course also place a copy of it on the mirror, next to your bed, and even next to the toilet, so that you see the message as often as possible during any given day. Your goal should be to repeat this message to yourself as many times as possible each day until such time that your subconscious mind realizes that this is what you are wanting it to think.

In this sort of scenario, you would soon begin smoking less and less until you reached that point where you were able to kick the habit altogether. Of course, this is just one example but the same approach can be applied to any aspect of your life.

If you're still not sure then let's take a look at a different scenario, and one which you more than likely experienced before yourself. You wake up in the morning and realize you're going to be late for work, and the first thing that comes to mind, is that you say to yourself you can't believe it's going to be another one of those days. After getting out of the shower you get dressed only to realize that you can't remember where you put your keys. Yes, it's definitely going to be one of those days. After some frantic searching you find your keys and head out to your car but unfortunately your dog has messed right in the center of the pathway and now you have it all over the underneath of your shoe. Even when you do eventually to get to work, you're faced with one problem after another. In fact it gets steadily worse until it reaches a point where you firmly believe it cannot get worse than what it already is, only to discover it gets significantly worse.

While many people would blame this on coincidence, saying that if they had remembered to set the alarm, they would not have woken up late, and if they had looked where they were going, they would not have stepped in the dog's mess. However, there is no such thing as coincidence, in that everything happens for a reason, and in most cases, your subconscious mind is the reason.

In recent times books such as 'The Secret' have tried extremely hard to explain this phenomena in scientific terms which is why it is now known as the 'Law of Attraction', which states that a person's subconscious mind not only responds and reacts to real life situations, but that it actually plays a part in creating such situations.

Even though this may sound rather crazy, the fact of the matter is that it is in agreement with quantum physics. In fact, it has even been proven at a subatomic level, in that matter is intrinsically linked to the mind of the observer. Interestingly enough, many ancient religions have been trying to tell us of this ever since man can remember.

What you need to bear in mind is that because you can create your own reality with your subconscious mind, it is possible to create a reality of your choice. In fact, some of the wealthiest people in history have become wealthy simply because they have consistently believed and visualized themselves acquiring a vast amount of wealth.

Belief

By Dr. Jay Polmar

Beliefs determine how we see, interact and feel the world around us. Beliefs are ideas that are formed after repetition and contemplation that are accepted as truth and reality. Therefore they impact how we see life.

Belief and knowledge are often in conflict. The difference might be subtle, but substantial. Knowledge is something that you and others, who might be considered experts in that field, consider to be true and there is reasonable, plausible, and provable scientific explanation for that knowledge.

A belief on the other hand is founded on personal experience or only on faith.

Too many people need you to accept their belief based on blind faith. Belief is not knowledge and therefore usually not provable beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Recall that it wasn't long ago that people believed the world is flat, and that we thought women were witches, hunted them down, and burned them.

Welcome to belief, which is based on superstitions, or blindness.

Ignorant humans who once believed that the Earth was the center of the universe, and that it was flat. Really demonstrated that what really was FLAT was the human ability to think outside the box and perceive something that others could not observe.

When scientists discovered great things, hundreds of years ago, they were imprisoned, tortured and murdered. The Catholic Church did not want people to see clearly, and therefore stopped the voices of these researchers.

Actually, during that time in history it was thought to be common knowledge that these ancient flat world beliefs were true. Even though humankind was sincere in its ignorant beliefs, those beliefs were false and by not believing as the others told you to, you were subject to arrest, imprisonment, and torture which often lead to death.

Times have changed. Today, things that you believe have changed, and you may believe in something so strongly that you count it as knowledge. When, in fact, there may be considerable proof from the past experience that a particular belief is a truth - its only truth for you from your personal experience. Just because you believe it is true, does not make it true. Although it might become a truth for you personally, by believing it you are limiting yourself by holding on to self-limiting beliefs.

The trick is to pull back the veil and see the real truth. That is one that is universal and does not need to be believed, it just is. These are referred to as universal truths. They exist and work beyond our own self-limiting beliefs. They forge and work through the universe and in our lives.

Gravity is a truth. Believe in it or not - its still a real truth. If you drop something it will fall to the ground. If you slip, and fall, you could hurt your butt. You can only fall DOWN, you don't fall up.

Now this is only a truth that exists here on Earth under normal circumstances. There are other forces that can resist this law such as a strong wind. You may have been programmed since childhood to believe things that you thought to be true - but, once you realized that they were not true, you may have wondered why you wasted time and energy believing in them at all.

Take the case of Santa Claus. You believed he was real. You believed that by some mystical miracle he went around the world in one night and brought presents to every well-behaved child. You may have further believed that he ate the burnt cookies you left for him and he drank that horrible lactose free milk. You believe that it was all related to your doing good things and not bad things, and that Santa was well, almost like God!

There was strong evidence to your belief:

Your parents persuaded that you he was real. (You trusted your parents unquestionably)

The cookies were eaten and the milk glass was empty. Even the crumbs disappeared.

There were presents under the Christmas tree by the morning.

You saw Santa at the mall, and you had a picture of Santa to prove it.

Your friends believed in him too.

All of this proves pointed toward knowledge, you just knew he existed. It pointed to a truth in that not only did you know he existed, everyone around you knew also. This belief as you found out was not true. It had shaped your view of the world as a child and still may have a lingering impact on your current belief system.

The point is that there are other things that you may think are true, but are not. You have been told things all your life for a variety of reasons: to make you feel better, to be funny, to hurt you, because other people believed it was true, and for other noble and not so noble reasons. You made the choice whether to believe what was being told you. You weighed this information and decided whether it fit or not into your already existing belief system. You either rejected the idea straight out, accepted it as part of what you already believed, or it changed your belief system.

Beliefs are very powerful, and they do shape our reality. If you believe in something strong enough, it becomes real in your life. There is a universal law that states that likes attract like. If you believe in something strong enough it not only becomes your reality, it attracts similar things in your life.

Suppose you believe you are clumsy. Your parents said you were clumsy, your coach as school did and so did your friends. They told you that you were an accident waiting to happen. You thought this to be true. Your whole life you tripped over your shadow. Not only did you believe this, but you also created that reality and circumstances of being clumsy.

Examine your beliefs and draw back the veil. "Well, I'll be. They seem to have repeatedly hypnotized me to trip myself up -- all my life" well, I'll be! And, then you don't have to be! It's all your belief.

Take Your Company Public Via OTCBB: Use Your Stock Like A Bank

By James Scott

Many entrepreneurs and executives want to move forward with the process of going public merely for the ability to raise capital through the sale of stock. They usually don't think of the strategies necessary to keep the momentum going such as how much equity to give up initially, how much equity to sell ongoing, how to capitalize off of the use of the securities as collateral for loans and lines of credit and so on.

One of the most profound strategies companies can use to retain company equity while capitalizing off of their public entity is to put up portions of their securities as temporary collateral for loans and to use securities to grow through acquisition of strategic alliances.

Stock should be looked at as cash and designated for appropriate purchasing strategies. Stock monetized through collateralized lending can work wonders as long as the exit strategy is in place and secure. Your attorney should be well versed in this activity and audit the contract for convertible aspects which could strip the transaction of its advantageous nature.

Debt that converts to equity means giving up a huge bartering chip for future transactions. Don't give up equity unless you have to. There are scores of companies that will lend against your securities without having to give up long term equity. Use this strategy wisely and you'll never have a problem getting capital.

Also, using stock to purchase strategic partners is more relevant now than ever. Purchasing a company with stock that can be monetized over time is an incredible way to grow through acquisition. Going public on the OTCBB is a quick and easy way to start using the countless capabilities for capitalization with a public entity. Going public simply to raise capital with your market maker or broker dealer would be selling yourself short. Take advantage of the countless ways your securities can work for you.

Remote Viewing Methods For Beginners

By Adam G Lake

You may choose any number of different remote viewing methods in order to be able to view that which you would be unable to perceive with your physical senses. Remote viewing is all about your own mental power and many who have tried it before say that it feels somewhat similar to astral projection. However, the two practices are different things entirely.

Actually, being able to remote view is a natural occurrence. Everyone has the innate ability to do remote viewing, yet as time passes, many individuals do forget that they ever could do such a thing. Remote viewing is the ability to sense or see something that is not in the same location as you are.

Remote viewing and its methods seem to many to be something entirely new age when all along it is just like many other issues that are considered paranormal as they are actually older than the time of the first breath of the first human.

You can call it what you like, but it's still remote viewing

For instance, many might consider the occurrence of an individual picking up a message that has no sender, a clairvoyant. On the other hand, when there is a sender and a recipient, the term to describe this occurrence is telepathy. However, in still other cases, the term maternal instinct comes to mind or just the ability of a father to know that his children need assistance of some kind.

Essentially, if you're open minded about the possibilities, you can have an enhanced and expanded perception of the world around you due to your natural psychic abilities. By allowing your latent talents to surface, you'll have an entirely different; and many would say improved view of the universe.

What are some of the most common remote viewing methods?

In order to learn how to remote view you will need to find the best means of getting yourself into the right frame of mind. This means that you will need either to have developed your natural abilities of extra perception or train yourself in the matters of visualization and meditation. There are various methods and techniques of each. It is up to you to find the ones that work best for you and your lifestyle.

When you practice guided visualizations and meditation as part of your remote viewing methods, you will be able to concentrate your mind power and focus more intently on any area or subject you wish to view. It does take time and practice so remain patient with your endeavours while remaining diligent in your determination for being receptive to images or messages that you may receive.

There are also aids you can use to help you develop your ability to remote view. These resources include books and audio recordings.

If you take the time to investigate the various types of remote viewing methods and techniques that are available to you, you will find that some will work very well for you, while others will be of no good use. It is essential to find the types of methods that work best for you in order to be successful in your remote viewing sessions.

Trust yourself and go with your instincts. Especially at first you might have images come to you which don't make sense - be patient; these images may come together later on. You'll also find that the images you receive while remote viewing will become clearer the more you practice.

Take it a step at a time, starting small and working your way up. Build on each lesson and progress bit by bit. It's best to start with a small number of simple, easy to visualize images as you begin practicing remote viewing. Small photographs, drawings or even playing cards work well.

Place these graphics in an envelope and seal. Then you can use them to practice and test your abilities. Make sure you record your practice and testing sessions in your remote viewing journal.

Be patient and keep with your efforts. No one is able to remote view perfectly at first. As long as you stick with it and practice regularly, you'll progressively improve and soon you'll be remote viewing with the best of them.

How Are Patents Different From Copyrights And Trademarks?

By Mariel Taylor

Three crucial legal frameworks - copyrights, trademarks and patents - arise from the same fundamental legal requirement. These are types of intellectual property that protect the interest of inventors and creators. However, there are various points of differences among the three.

The main difference is that the nature of rights accorded by patents is for a tangible or theoretical invention, while that provided by a copyright is for an original document, or image envisaged by the author. A trademark, on the contrary, can be a word or a logo that can distinguish products of one company from the others.

Secondly, patents have strictly defined liabilities, which offer the maximum protection against any sort of infringement. This means that any infringement of the patent, whether deliberate or not, would result in prosecution of the person infringing it. Therefore, patents accord higher protection than copyrights and trademarks that permit certain exceptions like fair use etc.

A patent is normally awarded for a span of 20 years, after which it goes into the public domain. On the other hand, trademarks can continue for an infinite time period while copyrights are usually valid for 60-70 years from the date the work was created. Further, patents can protect your intellectual property interests in a very comprehensive manner. Put simply, a copyright protects the mere expression of ideas, whereas patents can protect the underlying principles and techniques behind the creation as well.

Finally, the processes for submitting an application for these different legal mechanisms are also very different from each other. For example, the application for a patent requires detailed explanation of the invention, which is not required in case of copyrights or trademarks. However, a copyright application demands a replica of the original work, while a trademark needs a thorough search for similar marks in existence in the market.

What To Do If You Think Your Patent Has Been Infringed

By Aimee Sanchez

Patents enable an inventor to check unlawful use of his or her invention by others for their own personal gains in an illegal and unauthorized manner. They permit the inventor to prosecute a person or company for trying to make such unauthorized use of the original invention or its process. However, you should keep certain things in mind when going for a legal solution to deal with such an infringement.

Firstly, you are required to ensure that your patented product has been literally infringed. In other words, the alleged product should have copied all features of your original product. In some rare cases even if not all these aspects have been imitated by the violating party, the patent can still be considered to have been infringed. However, the infringing product must have similar features and produce the same result as the patented product for such a claim for infringement to be upheld in the court of law.

Secondly, you need to have some kind of direct connection with the patent in order to bring prosecution against the infringer. In other words, you ought to be the owner or licensee of the product for being eligible to fight against its infringement. Further, in order to make sure that your suit will get a court hearing, you need to file the suit within the allotted time under the limitation laws of your government.

Though, you have an option of prosecuting the owner or even the user of the infringing product, you can file such a lawsuit only when the patent is yet to expire. Once the span of patent has expired, no legal action can be taken against any infringement.

Finally, you must also keep in mind that patents can play a role in scientific research without it being labelled as an act of infringement even though the patent law is based on the principle of strict liability.

White Cyc Studios: Boundless Technology

By Phil Guye

White cyc is an individual element used to build a cyclorama that encircles the stage. All the changes in technology have done tiny to switch the way in which the cyc is lighted over time. All the new technology has increased the importance of correct lighting, and using the right kind of material for the white cyc.

What technology has done is take century old technology and make its use necessary for making virtual backgrounds for virtual and computer effects for the up and coming flood of films, and diverse video applications conditional on PC systems requiring faultless virtual backgrounds that may only be created in white cyc studios. White cyc studios technology dates back to nineteenth century German Theaters and has bounced round the entertainment industry for a long time. White wall surface was use for early twentieth century Broadway plays and finally ended up in Hollywood use for creating computer effects.

The white cyc is a very useful tool when it comes to lighting the white surface stage set. The white cyc supplies the lighting designer with an abounded number of lighting chances for staging the required computer effects scene. The white cyc with correct lighting will draw the spectators focus to the subject that the producer wants to show off. This is the major advantage of white surface backgrounds, and the rationale white cyc studios are used for television commercials, news programs, music videos, dance routines, and other kinds of film media. White is used for the color of the cyc because it leaves the background void so a new background with the required effect can replace it. The void background is great for digital fashion photography enhancing the model's appearance and keeping total focus on the model.

The one or more white cyc studios technology walls can be painted green to mix green screen effects in the white cyclorama flats. This works because the cyc is void of background permitting for the green screen background effect to show up in the place of the white cyclorama background. Using the cyc reinforces the green screen effect by giving it illusions depth and infinite space. Robert Rodriguez exploited a methodology similar when he was filming Sin City when he uses his 1956 Chevy Panel lorry in the film. He places his truck on a platform and films it from all different camera angles. The actors were filmed in front of a green screen background and were composite in the truck film to seem to be inside the van. In reality the actors never were in the wagon during filming. With the enlarging number of computer effects in flicks and TV programs today cyc lighting is terribly essential in making special visual effects.

Film producers have questions about using white cyclorama studios for computer effects. The producer's doubts are quickly dismissed with clear experience of what the cyclorama studios can do when they experience the results from the production lofts. Another use for white cyc studios technology backgrounds is on talk shows when music groups stop by to play one of their new music pieces. The white surface provides the perfect area for making a quick music environment.

BOGO

By David Anttony

Definitions of words often change quite quickly these days. In the distant past the meaning of words was often set in stone. Today the meaning can change in a blink. With new faster ways to communicate with wider and more culturally, socially and education

There is a growing global movement where consumers are asking businesses to take care of the things that they care about. The request is mainly tacit and despite it being an ironic request it non-the-less signals that we are in a time of change. Consumers these days want their 'goodies' but they don't want the environment to be destroyed in the creation of their 'goodies'. They want cheap products but they do not want workers to suffer to create those cheap products.

Until recently there was no real answer to this complex puzzle but today one actually exists. It exists in the reforging of a simple single word - GET. Today there is a new movement of consumers wanting to get and at the same time give. They are reforging the word GET into the word GIVE.

Every day automated email notices arrive in my inbox from Google Alerts for two keywords - BOGO and B1G1. I see all the new places these words are turning up on the Internet. Little by little these two words are gaining a their new meaning as more and more people take up the Buy One Give One cause.

B1G1 and BOGO, despite sounding like characters from a Marvel comic are acronyms for Buy One GET One free. You buy one and they give you an extra one for the same price.

Look up BOGO on Wikipedia.com (there isn't a definition yet for B1G1) and you will discover these definitions for BOGO:

* An acronym in the retail industry that stands for Buy One Get One. For example, you could say "Buy 1 DVD, Get 1 FREE!

* An acronym in slang British that stands for Britons Of Greek Origin or Greek Britons.

* Bogo, Cebu, a city in central Philippines.

* Norway, a village in Norway.

* Norway, a village in Norway.

* The mascot of the ITESM CEM.

* Bogosort, an ineffective sorting algorithm

* Bogosort, an ineffective sorting algorithm

BOGO Lights - torches that give

There's an entrepreneurial business in the USA called SunLight Solar which was founded by Mark Bent. They've created a special torch that's not only an amazing and sturdy solar-powered light; his company also gives a free torch to that in need in developing countries every time one is sold. If you look up their website you will learn more about their "BOGO light".

BOGOlight.com. - "The BoGo - our Buy one/Give one - program has successfully provided lights to many, many thousands of people in the developing world, changing lives because of your purchase and participation."

Mark Bent has flipped the BOGO acronym upside down when he started to use the word as part of his product name. For him now and the thousands who buy his lights, BOGO today means Buy One GIVE One. Each person gets to give a light every time they buy one for themselves. So now with each sale people who do not have the benefit of electricity can tap the power of the sun to support them in their lives.

There are many other well known and many less well know businesses doing Buy One Give One giving, or transaction-based giving as its becoming known. Some of the famous companies are OLPC - One-Laptop-Per-Child and TOM'S Shoes. Some of the less well-known ones (in the US at least) are based in Oceania and the UK - Earthstar Publishing, Maple Muesli, Blinds Couture, Figure 8 Body Chains, Sunsplash Homes, Honestly Women magazine and Thavibu Gallery based in Thailand are just a small handful of these special businesses that are leading the Buy One Give One movement.

There are many Buy One Give One businesses now uniting under the common brand banner of Buy1GIVE1 managed by a Singapore based social enterprise which is becoming the home of transaction-based giving. Any business in the world can now integrate Buy One Give One giving with ease. It's like a 'CSR plug-in' allowing a business to instantaneously start giving from each and every sale, starting from just 1 cent. It's also no longer about giving an equivalent product to someone else. Instead it is about contributing to a project that resonates with a company's activity. For example a restaurant can feed a child, a television retailer can give a cataract blind person the gift of sight (Get Vision-Give Vision), a magazine publisher can plant a tree every time they sell a subscription and a property developer can build a low-cost family home for those in need (Buy1BUILD1) - the list is simply endless.

Something special is happening these days as more and more people are switching onto giving and 'citizen brands' as a part of their everyday experience. The 2008 Edelman Goodpurpose global study of consumer attitudes reveal that almost seven in 10 (68%) consumers would choose to remain loyal to a brand during a recession if it supports a good cause, and 71% say that when they think about the economic downturn, they have either given the same or more time and money to good causes. This very same study highlighted some other major things as well like:

* 52% of consumers globally are more likely to recommend a brand to others when it supports a good charity cause over one that doesn't.

* and 54% would champion a brand to promote a product if there was a good cause behind it.

* Globally consumers are voicing a distinct desire for marketers to associate their brands to social causes. Forty-two percent say that if two products or services are of a similar quality and price, commitment to a cause trumps factors like innovation, design and brand loyalty when selecting one brand over another.

Turning Getting into Giving

In the minds of consumers, Buy One GIVE One is expected to replace Buy One GET One as the new global giving movement led by Buy1GIVE1 spreads. Certainly with the massive sales results and consumer demand shown for companies like BOGOlights, One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) and TOMS Shoes, this tide will continue to spread and grow.

I did a recent Google search to find the 25 top key words associated with the keyword BOGO. The results were very interesting in that none of them currently contained the word Give. I have displayed the results below. It will be interested to repeat this test in twelve months time and see what changes. Consumers are starting to drive major change and despite still wanting to receive free gifts (as in traditional B1G1/BOGO), they equally want to help others and the environment. This sentiment is validated by the 2008 Goodpurpose global study.

Here are the search results:

Free, shopping, pics, join, prose, photography, blogging, discount, boots, groups, music, dallas, togo themes, wallpapers, buy, applications, skins, values, coupon, gift, sharing, networking, African.

Transactional or transaction based giving

Buy One Give One giving is transactional - every time you buy something, you give something. In the case of SunNight Solar, TOMS Shoes and OLPC they happen to give physical products of the same nature for everyone sold. However, in most cases, Buy1GIVE1 associated businesses give a charitable contribution from each sale. Giving can start from just a one-cent contribution per sales transaction and go up to thousands of dollars in the case of Buy1BUILD1. At 1cent any business in the world can afford to give from each sale especially when they also know 100% of the contribution goes to the cause.

The actual amount given from each and every sale is not the point of focus with Buy1GIVE1 transaction based giving. It is not about saying 10% is contributed or 5c from each sale - instead the focus is on the story and sharing the simple joy of giving. In the end, if you think that 1c is not a lot to contribute and is not likely to make much of a difference think again and consider the following.

From its origins in Ethiopia, where the main coffee production is still from wild coffee tree forests, coffee consumption has spread globally. Brazil is still by far the largest coffee producer in the world producing on average 28% of the world's total coffee. In 2006 Brazil produced enough coffee to make 216,400,000,000 (216 billion four hundred million) espresso coffees. If we were to calculate across global production then we get a daily global consumption of around 2,117,416,830 cups of coffee - wow. The figures are somewhat hard to track down but let's guess that 40% of the world's coffee is sold and consumed in coffee shops then we would get that 846,966,732 cups are sold commercially each day globally - nearly 900 million. This would equate to about'5,485,714 cups in the US on its own seeing they purchase around 21% of the world's coffee.

If we considered the impact of the coffee industry alone taking up Buy1-Give1, imagine now that for every cup of coffee sold a child in a developing region like Sub-Sahara Africa received clean drinking water from a well and it only costing 1cent to do this. Surely any coffee shop could afford to contribute this amount from the sale of a single cup of coffee. Imagine the different that this one action alone would make in the world.

Transaction-based giving is the story of a thousand-mile journey starting with a single step. Digging a well costs a few thousand dollars, however when you break the cost down it only takes the sale of a single cup of coffee to give clean water to a single person for a day1. This is the incredible and simple power of transactional giving. It is like the compound interest of giving - a little turns into a huge amount very quickly.

So many companies are used to doing things on their own. Doing transactional giving is no different. A company can go out find a cause and start doing Buy One Give One giving. And yet they are missing the point when they do this. Buy1GIVE1 giving is about sharing the joy of giving and not trying to change the world. As soon as you step up and say you are going to change the world then the world will step up and challenge you. Within a heartbeat a company would experience the sharp scrutiny of the media inspecting their every move. And yet when a company steps up and says it is supporting what its customer want and joins with others in its industry to do that in a win-win way, the story is different. When companies choose to join together under a commonly recognised banner/brand they can have a powerful joint effect. The ripple that a single company creates is added to that of another and the ripple grows into a tidal wave that benefits so many. This is the power of giving and doing things together.

Everyone wins with Buy-One-Give-One transaction-based giving. The consumer wins - at no extra cost to themselves they've made a difference to the lives of others through their purchasing choices. The business also wins in so many tangible and intangible ways. And of course the charity partner wins because they are now able to receive small amounts from numerous sources aggregated and paid in a lump sum on a regular basis allowing them to focus on what they do rather than raising funds.

A new beginning

If you check Wikipedia today you should find that a new definition has been added for BOGO. It is time for a change. A change from focusing on GETTING to focusing on GIVING. The subtlety in the words that we use so often point to a deeper underlying meaning. I added this small addition to Wikipedia, "... an acronym in the marketing industry that stands for Buy One GIVE One."

Simply imagine our world where every time you go and buy something you give something automatically and seamlessly - giving a gift forward to someone in greater need than you. This is the simple joyful magic of transactional giving.

This is the world I want to be part of.

And remember - you don't 'get' giving till you get giving.
