IT Career Courses

By Scott Edwards

What might you expect the best training companies certified by Microsoft to give a student in Britain in this day and age? Undoubtedly, the ultimate in Microsoft certified training tracks, presenting a range of courses to lead you into a selection of professions with IT. Maybe you'd like to talk to industry experts, who could help you sort out whereabouts in industry would be best, and what sort of duties are a good match for someone with your abilities and personal preferences. Once you've decided on your career path, your next search is for a relevant course tailored to your needs. The standard of teaching should leave no room for complaints.

How can we go about making the right choice then? With all these possibilities, we have to know where we should dig - and of course, what to actually be looking for.

Beware of putting too much emphasis, like so many people do, on the training process. Your training isn't about getting a plaque on your wall; this is about employment. You need to remain focused on where you want to go. It's possible, for instance, to get a great deal of enjoyment from a year of study only to end up putting 20 long years into a tiresome job role, as an upshot of not doing some decent due-diligence at the outset. Set targets for earning potential and whether you're an ambitious person or not. This will influence what particular exams will be expected and what industry will expect from you in return. Obtain help from an experienced industry professional that 'gets' the commercial realities of the area you're interested in, and will be able to provide 'A typical day in the life of' synopsis of what duties you'll be performing with each working day. It makes good sense to discover if this is the right course of action for you long before your course begins. There's little point in beginning your training and then discover you're on the wrong course.

It only makes sense to consider study programs which grow into commercially acknowledged exams. There are loads of minor schools promoting unknown 'in-house' certificates that are essentially useless in the real world. Unless your qualification is issued by a conglomerate such as Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA or Adobe, then you'll probably find it will be commercially useless - as no-one will have heard of it.

Proper support should never be taken lightly - locate a good company providing 24x7 full access, as not obtaining this level of support will severely hamper your progress. Never purchase study programmes that only provide support to trainees with a call-centre messaging system outside of normal office hours. Trainers will give you every excuse in the book why you don't need this. Essentially - support is needed when it's needed - not at times when they find it cheaper to provide it. The best training colleges opt for an online access round-the-clock facility combining multiple support operations from around the world. You will be provided with a single, easy-to-use interface which switches seamlessly to the best choice of centres no matter what time of day it is: Support when you need it. If you opt for less than direct-access 24x7 support, you'll quickly find yourself regretting it. It may be that you don't use it late at night, but what about weekends, early mornings or late evenings?

If you're like many of the students we talk to then you probably enjoy fairly practical work - the 'hands-on' individual. Typically, the painful task of reading endless manuals would be considered as a last resort, but it doesn't suit your way of doing things. You should use video and multimedia based materials if book-based learning really isn't your style. Long-term memory is enhanced with an involvement of all our senses - this has been an accepted fact in expert circles for years now. The latest audio-visual interactive programs with demonstrations and practice sessions beat books hands-down. And you'll find them fun and interesting. Every company that you look at should be able to show you a few examples of their training materials. You should hope for instructor-led videos and a variety of interactive modules. Pick disc based courseware (On CD or DVD) every time. Thus avoiding all the issues associated with internet connection failure and issues with signal quality.

Exam 'guarantees' are sometimes offered as part of a training package - inevitably that means paying for the exams when you pay for the rest of your course. However, prior to embracing the chance of a guarantee, be aware of the facts: These days, we are a tad more knowledgeable about sales gimmicks - and the majority of us ought to realise that of course we're actually paying for it (it's not a freebie because they like us so much!) Passing first time is everyone's goal. Taking your exams progressively when it's appropriate and funding them as you go sees you much better placed to get through first time - you prepare appropriately and are mindful of the investment you've made. Do the examinations as locally as possible and don't pay up-front, but seek out the best deal for you when you're ready. Considerable numbers of questionable training providers make huge amounts of money through getting in the money for examinations upfront and hoping you won't see them all through. Many training companies will require you to sit pre-tests and hold you back from re-takes until you've demonstrated an excellent ability to pass - so an 'Exam Guarantee' comes with many clauses in reality. Splashing out often many hundreds of pounds extra on 'Exam Guarantees' is remiss - when a commitment to studying and the use of authorised exam preparation tools is what will really guarantee success.

Now, why is it better to gain commercially accredited qualifications and not more traditional academic qualifications taught at the state educational establishments? With 3 and 4 year academic degree costs increasing year on year, and the industry's recognition that key company training often has more relevance in the commercial field, there's been a large rise in Microsoft, CISCO, Adobe and CompTIA authorised training programmes that provide key skills to an employee at a far reduced cost both money and time wise. Higher education courses, for example, become confusing because of a lot of loosely associated study - with a syllabus that's far too wide. This prevents a student from getting enough specific knowledge about the core essentials. Think about if you were the employer - and you needed to take on someone with a very particular skill-set. What is easier: Trawl through loads of academic qualifications from various applicants, asking for course details and what commercial skills have been attained, or choose particular accreditations that specifically match what you're looking for, and make your short-list from that. Your interviews are then about personal suitability - instead of long discussions on technical suitability.

Discovering job security these days is very rare. Companies can throw us out of the workforce at the drop of a hat - as long as it fits their needs. Whereas a marketplace with high growth, where staff are in constant demand (due to a big shortfall of properly qualified staff), provides a market for proper job security. Taking the IT industry as an example, the most recent e-Skills investigation highlighted massive skills shortages throughout the United Kingdom around the 26 percent mark. Meaning that for each four job positions that exist in the computer industry, there are only 3 trained people to perform that task. Attaining proper commercial computer accreditation is accordingly a 'Fast Track' to realise a continuing as well as gratifying line of work. Because the IT sector is evolving at such a rate, could there honestly be a better market worth looking at for your new career.

Should You Buy A Tuxedo?

By Victor Santerino

Tuxedos are often rented rather than purchased, and for good reason. Many people will never have a need to purchase a tux and shouldn't. However, you should decide whether you are one of these people before continuing to rent.

This article was written to help people learn why they may need to buy a tuxedo rather than rent it. Upon finishing this article you can decide for yourself what must be done.

Firstly, you need to know how often you will be wearing a tuxedo over the next few years. A good way to determine this is to look at the past few years. If you have been averaging more than once every two years than it is a good idea to buy a tuxedo.

Tuxedos are not as expensive as many people think. The fact is, if you are wearing a tuxedo more than once in a two year period you will make your money back on your purchase relatively quick.

Tuxedo accessories will mostly never even need to be purchased. The reason for this is that many people already have them in the form of suit accessories. Black dress shoes, belts, and dress shirts can all be found in one's closet.

Renting is a hassle that you do not want to participate in if you don't have to. The entire process of going to the shop, looking at tuxedos, inspecting for damage, picking up the tuxedo before the event, and finally bringing it back to the shop is extremely time consuming.

The pride of possession is a stupendous feeling that can only be achieved through a purchase. This feeling will lead you to look and feel more confident in your owned tuxedo than your rented tuxedo.

I hope this article has been some use to you. Please bookmark this page and recommend it to your friends and family members.

Education issues ARE conservative issues

By Carolyn J. Fosdick

During the 2008 presidential election, a video played on national TV where elementary school children were singing Obama's campaign slogans. In the weeks since the election, there seems to be more and more examples of liberal brainwashing in our schools. Reports of these instances of liberal bias being taught are wide-spread, from elementary students crying if they don't say the liberal side, to college students penalized, possibly with lower grades, if they state a conservative belief.

To illustrate, before the election, a public school teacher asked her class to wear blue to support Obama on the Tuesday prior to the election. Since she did not ask Republican children to wear Red for McCain, she had no right to do this.

The most upsetting video, shown on October 7, 2008, was a radical-appearing band of middle-school youth dressed in similar black clothing with an Obama emblem on their shirts. Marching back and forth while clenching their fists and making other warlike motions, they appeared martial in their actions, whiling chanting praises to Obama. In the background was a banner with an Obama insignia on it. It was obvious that that the group had practiced this routine often while they were in a public school during their class, while having their teacher, who was paid for with taxpayer money, drill them. Evidently, the taxpayers never protested using tax money for this purpose.

Brainwashing our youth in liberalism with no rebuttal from the conservative side should come front and foremost in the educational issues of today's world. Why? How easily we forget the lessons of history. Remember Hitler's Youth? Boys were inducted into Hitler's Youth at age 10 for physical and military training. They were also taught to hate Jews, to believe in Aryan supremacy, and to spy and report on their parents, often getting their parents in trouble with the Gestapo police. Girls had similar programs. This childhood brainwashing worked. Hitler's Youth formed Hitler's army in World War II, obedient soldiers that knew no different way to think and were incapable of thinking for themselves.

Obama is not, however, the main point I am stressing in this educational problem. Obama's campaign just gave prime examples of indoctrination.

This is my point. Liberal views are invading our classrooms more and more, drowning out conservative issues. Far too many American children are presented with just one side and this is often the liberal side. Going hand in hand with liberal brainwashing is political correctness out of control. Students daring to state a conservative viewpoint are often labeled a racist, a homophobe, or a sexist. These labels are not only embarrassing, but also damaging to the student so accused. Few dare to open themselves up for this type of criticism.

It is of extreme importance that all sides of ideology are taught in the classroom. Conservative taxpayers must become informed of any kind of one-sided dogma taught without other side's also being taught, if done in public schools with public funds.

From preschool through state supported colleges and universities, Conservatives must become more involved in what our schools are teaching. Brainwashing just the liberal side of an issue in public schools must stop. Please give me your opinion on this timely educational matter.

To Achieve Success In Study, How Important Are Targets And Goals?

By Scott Edwards

Nothing great ever happens by accident. Successful people from all walks of life don't just wake up one morning as high achievers! For change to happen, a plan of action has to be made, targets have to be set and a commitment to see it through has to be adopted.

Prior to commencing your training course, take the time to think about your personal goals, and work out a study programme with targets or indicators of success along the way. To help you get started, use the acronym Smart to qualify the goals you plan to achieve. Smart stands for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and targeted.

To really get involved at an emotional level with the successful completion of your studies, compose a contract for yourself using the following headings:

DEFINE exactly what you expect to get from your efforts, in terms of possessions, income, lifestyle etc. Make a collage of pictures that reflects these things, and look at them regularly (e.g. before your study sessions). The more specifically you define what you want, the better.

DESIRE is what stirs us deep down. Think about why you've decided to take this course, and why it's important to you. The more emotionally involved you get with your desire, the more you'll stick with it. Pin point whether it's the job, the status, the challenge, or the control etc. that drives you.

Commitment or DEDICATION. Announce to yourself and those close to you that you're dedicated to your studies by writing up a timetable and sticking with it. However much time you choose to study each week, have it written on a calendar planner that you can cross off once you've completed it. Put it in a prominent place so it's at the forefront of your mind (at least until it becomes a habit). All things that are important get prioritised, so let your friends and family know that this is a priority to you for perhaps ten hours a week for a set number of months. Once your timetable has become established, you'll take pride in your dedication, and study all the better for it.

A contract illustrates your DETERMINATION to see this thing through. Having a written document about the positive direction of your life makes it harder to bottle out of it.

DISCIPLINE. The goals and disciplines you put in place will give you strength to overcome any adversities that inevitably come your way.

Once you've done this, sign it and do NOT put it away in a drawer. This is a working document and should be read every day for at least one month so you buy into it and it becomes your new way of life. If and when things get tough, read it again for another month. Always have it close to hand while you study and show it to your partner, kids (if you have them), friends and parents. This will help you to see your goal through.

How To Make A Resume - What You Need To Know

By Cynthia Penfold

Your resume can determine whether or not you are worthy of a job. That is why you have to know what is necessary to make a very powerful resume that tells who you are. If you are simply typing a brief employment history on a sheet of paper, that is not enough. How youre really going to make a great impression is by creating a resume that highlights your skills adequately, makes your work history shine, allows the employer to see why you are right for the company, and that you have been exactly what theyve been looking for all along.

The first thing you need to do is ask yourself, What are my skills and how can I offer them to this company? Once you have figured out what your skills are, write them down with pen and paper. The fact of the matter is, we are all human beings and human beings cant remember everything off of the top of our heads.

The next thing you want to ask yourself is, What do I think this company wants out of an employee? Of this is an answer you know, write it down. You then need to ask yourself, What about me is beneficial to this company? You want to ensure that there is something that you can offer the company because you dont want to be on the job, wondering what comes next. You also want to take a look at the experience you have gathered to ensure you can perform the job for that company.

Once all of this information is written down, it is time to construct the resume. You will start with what your objective is and how it is you plan on benefiting this company. After that, you move on to your employment history. You always want to ensure that you include all of your job duties here because even the smallest of duties may be relevant to this potential position. Do dont leave anything out.

The next part of the resume is where you outline any other experiences that you have had. Including certifications and licenses is very important as well. You never know when one of these things could be relevant to the job you are seeking. You never know what a potential employer is looking for, so leave out nothing.

Lastly, you have your reference section. There is nothing wrong with including your references on your resume. Some do prefer to state that references will be provided upon request and others prefer to go ahead and give that information.

It is important to not skimp on your resume in any way. Although there is this desire for a one page resume by some, that is something that is impossible to do. You want to highlight as much of yourself as possible, so condensing that information can be impossible.

Furthermore, make sure you use a high quality paper. You dont want to use the paper straight out of your printer. This is because that is a lower quality paper. You can go to your local office supply store and purchase resume paper, which looks and even feels professional. When you combine your excellent expertise with a fancy looking resume, then your chances of landing the job increase exponentially.

Computer Support Courses

By Scott Edwards

These days, many workplaces couldn't function properly without the help of support workers fixing both computers and networks, while advising users on a day to day basis. The desire for such skilled and qualified members of the workforce is constantly growing, as everywhere we work becomes more and more technologically advanced.

Seeing as the computer market provides some outstanding career possibilities for everyone - what questions do we need to be posing and what elements carry the most importance?

Don't get hung-up, as can often be the case, on the certification itself. Training is not an end in itself; this is about employment. Begin and continue with the end in mind. It's a sad fact, but a large percentage of students commence training that sounds great in the prospectus, but which provide the end-result of a job which doesn't satisfy. Speak to a selection of college graduates and you'll see where we're coming from. Stay tuned-in to what you want to achieve, and build your study action-plan from that - avoid getting them back-to-front. Stay focused on the end-goal and ensure that you're training for something you'll enjoy for years to come. It's worth seeking guidance from someone that understands the market you think may suit you, and is able to give you 'A day in the life of' type of explanation for each job considered. All of these things are essential because you obviously have to know if this change is right for you.

You should only consider learning programmes that move onto industry approved qualifications. There are far too many trainers promoting unknown 'in-house' certificates that are essentially useless when you start your job-search. From an employer's viewpoint, only top businesses such as Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA or Cisco (as an example) provide enough commercial weight. Anything less won't make the grade.

Traditional teaching in classrooms, involving piles of reference textbooks, is usually pretty hard going. If this describes you, dig around for more practical courses which have a majority of interactive, multimedia parts. Where possible, if we can get all of our senses involved in our learning, then the results are usually dramatically better. Locate a program where you'll receive a selection of DVD-ROM's - you'll learn by watching video tutorials and demonstrations, and be able to practice your skills in interactive lab's. All companies must be pushed to demo some samples of the type of training materials they provide. Make sure you encounter videos of instructor-led classes and many interactive sections. You'll find that many companies will only provide online training only; while you can get away with this much of the time, consider how you'll deal with it if your access to the internet is broken or you get intermittent problems and speed issues. It's much safer to rely on physical CD or DVD discs that don't suffer from these broadband issues.

Proper support should never be taken lightly - locate a good company that includes 24x7 access, as anything else will annoy you and definitely hold up your pace and restrict your intake. Try and find training where you can access help at any time of day or night (irrespective of whether it's the wee hours on Sunday morning!) Ensure you get access directly to professional tutors and not access to a call-in service which takes messages - so you're waiting for tutors to call you back when it's convenient for them. World-class organisations offer an internet-based 24x7 facility utilising a variety of support centres across the globe. You will have a simple interface that seamlessly selects the best facility available at any time of day or night: Support when you need it. If you accept anything less than support round-the-clock, you'll regret it very quickly. You may not need it during the night, but what about weekends, early mornings or even late evenings at some point?

Consider the points below very carefully if you think the sales ploy of examination guarantees seems like a good idea: Everyone knows they're ultimately paying for it - it's not so hard to see that it's already been included in the overall figure from the course provider. Certainly, it's not a freebie - don't think these companies are so generous with their money! Students who go in for their examinations when it's appropriate, paying for them just before taking them are in a much stronger position to qualify at the first attempt. They are thoughtful of what they've paid and prepare more appropriately to be ready for the task. Don't you think it's more sensible to go for the best offer when you're ready, not to pay any mark-up to a training course provider, and to take it closer to home - instead of the remote centre that's convenient only to the trainer? A surprising number of questionable training companies secure a great deal of profit through charging for exams at the start of the course then cashing in if they're not all taken. The majority of companies will require you to sit pre-tests and with-hold subsequent exam entries from you until you have proved to them you have a good chance of passing - making an 'exam guarantee' just about worthless. Exams taken at local centres are approximately 112 pounds in Great Britain. Why spend so much more on 'Exam Guarantee' costs (often covertly rolled into the cost of the course) - when good quality study materials, the proper support and commitment, effort and practice with quality exam preparation systems are the factors that really get you through.

A number of students are under the impression that the state educational path is the way they should go. Why then is commercial certification beginning to overtake it? As demand increases for knowledge about more and more complex technology, the IT sector has moved to specialist courses only available through the vendors themselves - namely companies like Microsoft, CISCO, Adobe and CompTIA. This often comes in at a fraction of the cost and time. Essentially, students are simply taught the necessary specifics in depth. It isn't quite as lean as that might sound, but the most important function is always to concentrate on the fundamentally important skill-sets (with some necessary background) - without trying to cram in everything else (as degree courses are known to do). Think about if you were the employer - and you wanted someone who could provide a specific set of skills. Which is the most straightforward: Trawl through loads of academic qualifications from graduate applicants, having to ask what each has covered and which commercial skills they've mastered, or choose particular accreditations that exactly fulfil your criteria, and draw up from that who you want to speak to. You'll then be able to concentrate on getting a feel for the person at interview - instead of having to work out if they can do the job.

Massive developments are coming via technology over the next few decades - and the industry becomes more ground-breaking every year. It's a common misapprehension that the increase in technology we've been going through is cooling down. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are huge changes to come, and the internet in particular will become an increasingly dominant part of our lives. Should lifestyle be around the top on your goal sheet, then you'll welcome the news that the regular income of a typical IT worker is much higher than salaries in other market sectors. Experts agree that there's a great UK-wide search for certified IT specialists. In addition as the industry constantly develops, it is likely this pattern will continue for a good while yet.

Orchid Delivery to Los Angeles - How to Get the Best Service

By Linda Jenkins

Ordering orchid delivery to Los Angeles is always a good idea. People who like having plants and flowers in their house will really appreciate receiving the orchids. Orchids are delicate and tropical. They are pretty and make you feel calm. They do something special to their house that they're in. You can get orchids on the internet by ordering online. Just find a merchant that sends flowers to LA.

Its important to realize that there are a few important things to know when you are ordering your orchids. As an example, even though it is often a good idea to find the best deal when ordering flowers, it is not a good thing to do when you ordering orchids. Orchids are very fragile so you will want to spend a little extra so you know that you are using a store that will do a good delivery job and get your orchids to your recipient looking as good as they did in the store.

The orchids may have come from far away - they are grown in many different countries. It is best that the service you order will move them fast and gently. This is true even in cases where the orchids were grown in hothouses or other places that are worked out to make sure you get the prettiest orchids you can.

Over 25,000 kinds of orchids are grown around the world. Not all of them can be sent to Los Angeles, but you do have plenty of options. Some popular options include Dendrobium orchids, Cymbidium, Vanilla, and Moth orchids.

Pay attention to how your bouquet looks. Orchids can be placed in a bouquet by themselves, and they can also be combined with other flowers. When buying potted orchids, its a good idea to get a nice pot in order to make your gift look even nicer.

Whoever gets the orchids should be notified that they should take very good care of their new flowers and handle them gently. You can do this by sending them a note, or by making sure to get a delivery service that adds this information to their bouquets.

Orchids need gentle treatment, the right environment, and some time to adjust to their surroundings. This is particularly true if you're having a potted orchid delivered. All orchids need plenty of water and must be kept in relatively humid rooms if they're going to last. With the proper care, a cut bouquet will last for some time, and a potted orchid will thrive.

These exotic, elegant flowers have captured many people hearts and are great for creating a truly special occasion. They work well for home decorations, in the garden, for birthdays, Valentine's Day, anniversaries or just about any other important event. These wonderful flowers are the perfect choice for someone you care about. So, if you're not sure what to give for the next special occasion, consider orchid delivery to Los Angeles as a safe bet.

Your Secret Barrier to Wealth

By Dr. Joe Vitale

I just read Dan Kennedy's September No B.S. Marketing Letter and was thrilled to see him talk about mindsets and language.

In one section he explained that talking about negative things makes your clients and customers feel bad, which in turn makes them less inclined to buy from you.

People want to feel good. I talked about this in my book, Life's Missing Instruction Manual. Even Kennedy, who can be a grump, realizes that focusing on doom and gloom will simply make people tighten their hold on their wallets or purses.

Instead, focus on the good, talk about the positive, and help people feel better.

Dan's back page essay -- always my favorite part of his No B.S. newsletter -- is all about how your own thinking leads to the reality you create.

Dan begins his article by saying the other day he deposited $802,486.00 in the bank.

Not bad for a day's work. (It was for more than a day's work, but you get the idea.)

Dan goes on to brilliantly explain that most of us -- even him, even me -- have a "secret barrier" within us that keeps us from bringing in a larger income.

Whatever income you have right now is there because you are comfortable with it.

You probably made far less money decades ago. As you grew more comfortable, as you raised your secret barrier, you could allow more money into your life.

In short, you are earning what you are expecting.

The way to sell more and raise your income is to help people feel good and to work on your inner secret barrier.

How do you change your secret barrier to wealth?

You read this blog. You read Dan Kennedy. You read books about the wealthy. You subscribe to magazines for the affluent. You read my book, The Attractor Factor. You watch the movie The Secret. You get into or create a mastermind group of wealthy people. You surround yourself with wealth and prosperity so you can begin to accept it, feel it, own it, and expect it.

In short, you get comfortable with the idea of wealth.

Two tips:

1. Subscribe to Dan's newsletter. He's a genius and a living legend. You can get a three month subscription, to try it out, at www.freegiftfrom.com/dankennedy/ 2. Get the Milagro Manifestation Method CD's and put them in your iPod or on your PC or Mac, or in your car or wherever you can soak up their music and messages. See www.milagromethod.com

These CD's are so powerful that last night at dinner Bill Hibbler said when he puts one of the CD's on, he instantly becomes a powerhouse copywriter.

I think the CD's are so potent that I asked Pat O'Bryan at dinner last night to bring me another set, so I can send them to a company I know that may want to promote them.

Get your own set at www.milagromethod.com

Bottomline: You get what you expect.

Or, as Dan says in his newsletter, "You'll only get to bank what your internal system permits you to accept."

Joe

Epoxy Pipe Lining Can Prevent Lead Contamination

By Dr. Dave Dunn

Lead used to be a primary material for water pipes in major U.S. cities, until the early 1900?s. It was so heavily favored because of its durability and malleability. Galvanized steel and copper eventually replaced lead, and copper pipe became the most popular material used in home water service and distribution in post 1950 construction.

Lead contamination was the top source of lead-related health issues before the hazards of ingesting it were known. The cause was pipe corrosion and erosion, and it raised stillbirth and infant mortality rates. Other plumbing or pipe problems are much easier to spot, but if you?re not testing for lead in your water, you?ll never know it?s there. You can find general information about lead contamination and how to test for it on the EPA?s website.

If your water is lead contaminated, it's most likely because of one or more of the following: lead service line pipe(s) connecting your house to the municipal water main, lead-based solder (used to join copper pipes), and brass or chrome-plated brass faucets. In 1986, Congress banned the use of lead solder containing greater than 0.2% lead, and restricted the lead content of faucets, pipes and other plumbing materials to 8.0%.? This so-called ?lead-free? brass can still legally contain up to 8% lead and plumbing systems installed prior to 1986 can contain high levels of lead from both plumbing components and lead solder.

In older buildings and homes, the service line from the municipal water main to the house may be a lead pipe -- something you should definitely confirm. Unless your piping has been upgraded in the past 40 years, it is probably galvanized pipe (iron with a zinc coating) which does not require lead solder to join the pipe. You may already know if your faucets are brass or chrome-plated, but if not, you might want to consult with a licensed plumber or take them with you to a local hardware store. CuraFlo??s website offers a brief history of lead materials in water pipes.

If you have lead contamination from your pipes, epoxy lining can be your solution. Once installed it is a barrier to lead leaching into your drinking water. The epoxy lining prevents the metal of the pipe and the water flowing through from coming into direct contact. This prevents the chemical reaction that causes pipe corrosion. Epoxy pipe lining eliminates and prevents lead and other metals (from your pipes) leaching into the water, as well as a host of other poor water quality issues such as: water that?s red, brown, blue or yellow, zinc or iron leeching in galvanized pipes causing a metallic taste, and bacteria that causes bad tasting water or water that smells.

Epoxy lining of pipes is not a new technology, just a relatively unkown one. But it?s not unproven ?both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have tested and approved the use of epoxy pipe lining to prevent lead and other contaminants from leaching into drinking water. Links to their reports are available at http://curaflo.com/CuraFlo/ResourceCenter.

government?s highest stadard for safe drinking water: ANSI/NSF Standard 61. ANSI/NSF Standard 61 certification means CuraPoxy is certified for safe use in drinking water pipes carrying water up to 180? Fahrenheit or 82.2? Celsius. The proprietary epoxy and epoxy pipe lining process CuraFlo uses will protect you from lead and other metals in your pipes that may be leaching into your water now or might in the future, by creating a safe barrier between them and your water.

Finding The Best Student Loan Consolidation Programs

By Trinity Tolbert

By the time you finish college, it is more than likely that you will have several loans. Four or more years of loan debt can leave you with several repayments to different loan agencies. In most situations, you are required to apply for a new loan each year and depending on your financial status, you might qualify for loans with different interest rates. Consolidating your loans into one loan can help save you time and money.

There are a few advantages to consolidating your loans. It will save you money because instead of having several loan payments, you will have one payment monthly that is lower. You will most likely also be able to lock in a lower interest rate overall by consolidating. It will save you time because you will have fewer bills to pay monthly and less paperwork.

One thing you will want to verify is that you are truly getting a better interest rate by consolidating your loans. Some government loans offer really low interest rates, but if they are variable rates and not fixed rates, then you might see those rates rise. This is another smart reason to consolidate loans; it allows you to lock in the interest rate so it is not affected by future rate fluctuations.

If you have government loans, watch to make sure that the interest rate you are offered for consolidation is actually lower than the interest rate on each loan. On occasion, loans issued by the government can have really low interest rates, especially those offered based on need. If you have a loan that is at a lower interest rate than the consolidation interest rate, you will probably want to leave that loan out of the consolidation to save yourself money. There are four main refinancing options usually available when you consolidate loans. The first option is the standard repayment plan where you make monthly payment plans on a fixed interest rate over a period of ten years to thirty years, depending of the type of consolidation refinance program and lender you choose. The second option is the extended repayment plan where your payments are less than payments under the Standard Repayment Plan, with repayment periods ranging from twelve to thirty years, depending on the total amount that you have borrowed.

Third, there is the option of the graduated repayment plan. Repayment on this plan is also twelve to thirty years depending on how much you owe, but it is different in that the monthly payment starts out lower and increases every two years.

So the best student loan consolidation program really depends on what works best for you and your situation. Consolidating your student loans might be one of the greatest graduation gifts you can give yourself.

Do You Dream Of Becoming A Lucid Dreamer?

By Lesley Groft

So you want to lucid dream. Well that's a good start, at least you know what you want to do; but how exactly do you go about it?

You also need to think about exactly why you want to become a lucid dreamer. What are the benefits of dreaming lucidly? To help us find the benefits, let us first look at 'normal' sleep.

Have you ever considered the process of sleep before? Every night you make preparations, crawl into bed and go to sleep. You may have dreams or nightmares or all may just be dark for a few hours, it is rather boring isn't it?

Instead of having to observe passively, you could be the person who leads your dream to be whatever you would like.

Lucid dreamers are in complete control of their dreams. This allows them to explore new worlds in their mind and expand the scope of their dreams. Lucid dreamers can also conscious choose not to have nightmares - they just change the dream.

If you want to become a lucid dreamer, there are two major ways to accomplish it. The first way is called DILD, or dream-initiated lucid dream. That's when you're in the process of having a dream, realize that it's happening, and retain your sense of consciousness inside the dream.

The second way is having a wake-initiated lucid dream (WILD); where the dreamer goes from being awake, to being asleep with no change in consciousness. In other words, the dreamer enters their dream as if it were a door, rather than just "waking up" in a dream.

So, what methods are used to induce both of these kinds of lucid dream experiences?

Dream Recall

A simple place to start when you would like to lucid dream is in dream recall. This is where you can remember and perhaps recite your dream in part or in whole. You are very likely to have the same dream more than once in your life and being able to remember them will alert you the next time you have that particular dream.

The way to practise dream recall is by keeping a dream journal. The dream journal is meant as a tool to write down anything you can remember about your dream, in order to recall it for the future. This should be done right after waking up; otherwise dreams will become harder to remember.

Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams (MILD)

This technique was developed by Dr. Stephen LaBerge, one of lucid dreaming's lead scientists. The method used here is telling yourself that you'll remember something in your dream. Once in the dream, you'll see this object, recall what you told yourself, and realize you're dreaming.

Wake-Back-to-Bed (WBTB)

To use this method, first go to sleep. Set an alarm beforehand to wake you up a few hours later (about five or six). Once you wake up, don't go back to sleep. Read for a little while, or think about lucid dreaming for a while, then head back to sleep.

According to LaBerge, this technique has about a sixty percent success rate. That's because you wake up in the middle of your sleep cycle, with your mind not fully aware, and are still in the middle of your REM cycle. This results in something a lot like telling your mind you want to dream lucidly and having it obey!

Cycle Adjustment Technique

This was created by Daniel Love, and what it is, is setting your alarm to wake you up an hour and a half before your normal time. Once you've adjusted to waking up early, alternate your alarm to wake you up normally and early. During times you are to wake up normally, you're body will already be ready to wake up early, and therefore, you will be likely to be awake in your dream.

Wake-Initiation of Lucid Dream (WILD)

When you consider all the methods and techniques wake initiated is by far the most intriguing way to enter lucid dreams. What you have to do is manage to keep the brain aware while the rest of you falls asleep. You can enter your dreams much like entering a theater. You go into watch the movie, set down and the light go down, (sleep) dark envelopes you just before the movements on the screen appear.

To get into this correct frame of mind if you will there are a few tricks you can use. Focus seems to be key so try to focus your mind on things like your breathing, counting, perhaps chant or meditate. In a way, you are practicing self-hypnosis. Use this technique when you are not extremely tired, perhaps during a late nap.

Technology has moved on in recent years, and there are various devices like dreaming masks and other scientific appliances which contain such things as strobe lights to induce lucid dreams.

The most reliable and easiest way of inducing a lucid dream may be listening to binaural beats sound frequencies through headphones.

These work by synchronizing the two hemispheres of the brain and have the effect of almost instantaneously changing your brainwaves to the REM frequency needed for a lucid dream to occur.

Combined with the self hypnosis sessions and affirmations to prepare your subconscious mind beforehand, becoming a lucid dreamer is something that everyone can now experience!

Lighting the Fire of Motivation in Your Teen

By Lauren Tyson

"When Cody graduated last fall, we danced a little jig of joy. He had so much trouble with schoolwork that we were afraid he would give up on his dream of becoming a lawyer. We know he's a bright teenager, but at the time, our highest expectation for him was a C average. We didn't know if the problem originated with his classes or with him."

Those are the words of a desperate parent. No parent ever wants to think that their son or daughter is unable to excel in school. Though there can be a variety of factors, there is one crucial question that many parents overlook when contemplating their child's dissatisfaction with school: have they been taught how to learn? It seems like such a ridiculous query that most parents would answer immediately, "Yes! Of course my teen possesses adequate learning skills. They are in high school!" Those same parents would be surprised to find that many teenagers have never been formally taught how to study or prepare for an exam. Without those skills, they miss out on a wealth of potential and are so caught up with their immediate frustrations that they don't understand how easy learning can be with the right encouragement.

A lack of learning skills does not automatically equal a lack in academic ability. Trying to play a game without a set of rules is impossible, just as it is impossible for a teenage to tap their latent potential for studying and excelling in school without guidance. If a teenager is faced with repeated disappointment and failure, they may develop a self defeating attitude and convince themselves that school does not matter. This can be very dangerous for their academic and personal futures.

Why do teens feel so disconnected from their schoolwork? Motivation may be the key. When a student is unable to relate to what they are learning, a barrier forms between them and comprehension. Teenagers will bore of learning information that they do not see merit in. Unless they find ways to reconnect themselves to the content, they will continue to feel negatively toward learning.

Though a teacher's goal is imparting information clearly, students are not always able to organize and rehash that information into something they can use to study, especially when they lack the learning skills to do it. Every student has a different way of absorbing information, and teachers are often unable to cater to their specific learning styles. Some students learn audibly, while others learn visually. Ultimately, a student must find the best way to decipher what they learn and make it comprehensible.

A mysterious phenomenon occurs for many teenagers: their love of learning is extinguished and replaced with frustration. School and responsibility becomes something that they are eager to put behind them. What happened to the precocious child who read everything with enthusiasm? Where did that promising artist go, who scribbled out crayon masterpieces in a flurry of creative passion? They are still lurking, deep inside a shell of hormones and indifference. They don't want that creative spark of learning and discovery to be lost; they just need to find a way to rekindle it.

One thing that will coax the creative spark from any teenager is changing their view of school. If it is viewed as a forced institution or mandatory responsibility, they will never understand what a place of learning can offer. Rather, school should be depicted as a gateway of opportunity. It is a place that will broaden their horizons and actualize their personal goals and dreams. Academic summer camps help exemplify this image by providing learning and teen life skills in a setting where teenagers feel comfortable. Here, they will gain important traits that will help them in their academic and personal lives, like confidence, self-esteem, and motivation.

Summer programs like SuperCamp focus on a broad range of life skills designed to prime them for a rigorous future of accomplishment, things like communication skills, leadership skills, building positive relationships, conflict resolution, creative thinking, setting goals, and problem solving. These skills will help ease the difficulties they may face in school or at home, and will last them a lifetime.

When a teenager takes ownership for their own learning processes, the results can be astonishing. Learning, memorizing, studying, and testing all just become part of their goal of self-betterment. With that attitude, they can do anything they set their minds to.

Blank Map - How Well Do You Know Your World?

By Ferdinand Mekinsy

Maps are one of those primary types of information resources that we all count on like the phone book or the dictionary. But there is something elegant about a map that elevates it above just a way to see where stuff is. It isnt unusual to see maps presented artistically as wall hangings in homes or even in museums. Maps appeal the organizational side of us. When you look at a map, the quiet message is that the world was not an orderly place but now it is. And as civilized people, that comforts us.

Have you ever seen one of those TV shows where little children are interviewed about world leaders or global events? The idea is to get children to say cute things because they dont understand the world world. Its a fun idea but it points to one of the failings of our educational system which is how deficient we are in teaching geography and global affairs to children or youth at any level of our educational system.

While its ok for kids to be cute on TV, more and more teachers at the elementary school level are detecting ways to introduce concepts of geography and global affairs into the classroom at previous ages. Part of the problem is learning to make lessons in the organization of countries around the world fun and interesting to young minds. In many cases easy tools like blank world maps can give teachers a lot to go on to make world geography interesting to the kids.

When a teacher introduces a blank world map or just a part of the world with the countries showing but no details, the children instantly acknowledge that as a game. And while it is a challenging educational method, it is the challenge aspect of learning what countries are which works well to capture the attention of the students either in the classroom or at home. One way that teachers can use world maps that are blank to get children working is to send home a game to be played with parents called "name that country". When the children lay out a blank map and it is a family project to provide the details that the blank map worksheet is asking for, kids get a kick out of it when even parents stumble with this kind of assignment.

When the children return to class, the same blank map work sheets can be used as teaching tools. With the incentive of learning to out perform mom and dad, children often begin to excel at quick spot games about the countries on the blank template and where it is in the global as well the names of key cities and other significant landmarks. This is a "painless" and fun way to get the children used to understanding and getting a firm knowledge of world geography and affairs. From that base of knowledge then, political theory and foreign relations can be taught without the big words. But the children become urbane pretty fast which grooms them for advanced studies in later years in school very well.

Improve Your Life With Chakra Color Therapy

By Jonathan Benjem

Its a traditional knowledge that human body contains a reservoir of energy deep within. The highly evolved souls propagate harnessing this energy in order to create the ideal living conditions in and around us. They abjure the idea of external help to restore normal body functioning. The theory that gained ground was Chakra balancing, i.e., synchronized movement of seven primary energy centers within the body, to improve all aspects of life (spiritual, emotional, and physical).

These seven Chakras each have a distinct color associated with them, which governs its movement " balanced or imbalanced. If there is an imbalance, you can correct it by employing Chakra Color Therapy to the relevant imbalanced Chakra.

Before discussing about the Chakra Color Therapy, a brief description of the primary chakras and their associated colors wont be out of place:

1. The Base Chakra (Muladhara) is situated at the coccyx (base of the spine). This first chakra is associated with our very basic survival needs, courage, and vitality. The color associated with this chakra is Red. The attributes of Red color for the body includes vitality and energy provider on all levels.

2. The Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) is situated in the lower abdomen. This second chakra is associated with second basic needs, i.e., our sexual drive and emotions. The color associated with this chakra is Orange. The attributes of Orange color for the body includes conviction in ones actions and the art of thinking independently.

3. The Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) is situated in the stomach region. This third chakra is associated with lending power, will and identity to the individual. The color associated with this chakra is Yellow. The attributes of Yellow color for the body include thought clarity and self-worthiness.

4. The Heart Chakra, or Anahata, is located in the center of the chest. This chakra is associated with love, compassion, and self-expression. The associated color is Green, which is known for its qualities of intimacy and forgiveness.

5. The Throat Chakra, or Vishuddha, is located in the throat area. This chakra is associated with expression and communication. The associated color is Blue, which is known for its qualities of clarity in communicating the feelings with others, self-identification, and creativity.

6. The Brow Chakra (or Ajna), situated between the brows on the forehead, is associated with perception, intuition, and imagination. Indigo is the color associated with this chakra, which empowers the body with qualities, like visualization, understanding, and clear vision.

7. The Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) is situated on top of the head. This seventh chakra is associated with knowledge and wisdom. The color associated with this Chakra is Violet. The attributes of Violet color for the body includes spiritual awareness and self-knowledge.

Quite simply, Chakra Color Therapy refers to simple exercises that use the relevant colors to correct the movement of imbalanced chakras. But, before you employ Chakra Color Therapy to treat the imbalance, its vital to know which chakra or chakras is/are affected in the body.

For the very first step, you can simply lie down, relax, and mull over all the events in the day in any order that is convenient to you. The experience of emotions related to each event will tell you the affected chakra. After identifying the problem chakra, its time for Color Breathing. Its simple. Take all the seven colored cloth swatches besides you. Put the relevant colored cloth on the body part, which is represented by the affected chakra. Lie down, close your eyes, relax, take deep breaths, and simply visualize the absorption of the color by the affected body part for 5-10 minutes. Repeat this exercise if there are more affected chakras in the body.

Chakra Color Therapy is a healthy option for maintenance of chakra balance. For daily maintenance, just lie down and repeat the above process by placing the relevant colored swatches on the relevant body parts. 5-10 minutes should be sufficient to recharge your chakras and correct the imbalanced ones to give you a better life free of physical, emotional or spiritual ailment.

The Best Way To Finish College Fast

By Jenny Willow

After high school many people dream of going to college for the next several years, meeting lots of life long friends and going to a lot of parties. That reality is not the case for everyone though. It costs money and takes time for that lifestyle and many people need to finish college fast to earn a degree and get out in the real world supporting them and their family.

For example a person working a fulltime job to support their family would not likely being able to quit working in order to finish their degree. Or someone in the Navy or other military service who's duty does not allow them to be close to a college. Although even if they were close to a college since they are in the military they would not be able to go to school fulltime most likely.

Whatever the reason for not being able to go to college fulltime to finish a degree there are other options to consider. So yes the traditional experience of going to college may not happen fully or at all, but at least it is possible to still complete a degree and get on with your professional working life as quick as possible.

The first thing you may be thinking is online or distance education programs. Yes those can be great ways to get a college degree without being on campus and giving you flexibility to do so.

To finish as fast as you can it may require additional steps as well. In case you are not aware there are tests that if you successfully pass them (and there are study guides) you may not be required to then complete certain college classes. Completing one or several of these tests could save you money and time.

The College Level Examination Program (a.k.a. CLEP) is accepted by some colleges allowing you to earn up to 12 credit hours for every exam passed. Check with the college you are looking into as not all colleges accept CLEP exams for credits. Some colleges also use the CLEP for admissions purposes.

A few CLEP exam examples include Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, College Algebra, College Mathematics, English Composition, and more.

Hopefully completing your college education as fast as possible may seem more doable now. With a combination of finishing CLEP exams along with online colleges (assuming they accept CLEP) you may be able to finish your degree fast and get on with your professional career.

When it is Considered an Injury at the Workplace?

By Amy Nutt

Injuries in the workplace happen all of the time. It is quite unfortunate, but certain obstacles get in the way, there are slip and fall injuryaccidents, and sometimes people may lift something and take out their back. There are so many things that can occur and many individuals are not quite certain when and if they should file a claim against their employer. If the injury causes them to not be able to function, then they lose wages and their quality of life is reduced significantly.

But when is it really considered a workplace injury?

Here is a list of workplace injuries:

- Carpal tunnel " This is from typing in an improper position. The wrist should be positioned in a certain way. This can be due to the employee not using proper techniques, but this can also be due to the proper supports not being provided by the company.

- Falls " If the floor is wet where it shouldn't be or there is an obstacle in the way, this can be claimed as a workplace injury.

- Breaks and fractures " If something occurs that causes you to break your arm or fracture any bone in your body, you can claim this as a workplace injury.

- Back, neck, and head injuries " If you are lifting something and you hurt your back, you can claim the injury if you were not provided with the right kind of back support to prevent the injury. Neck injuries can happen in this way as well. As far as head injuries go, you can get them from falling, from something falling on you, or from something hitting you.

- Tendonitis " This is the result of overuse of that particular part of your body. When it is work-related, there is a possible claim.

- Burns and lacerations " If you are cut or burned on the job, then you may be able to claim the injury.

There are many other injuries that can occur on the job. The best way to know whether or not it is considered an injury in the workplace is when it has occurred because of something that someone else caused or was caused by the company themselves.

There are many instances in which the right safety gear is not offered. There are also cases in which a person may be severely overworked and it leads to overuse injuries. The best way to be able to file a workplace injury claim is to be able to prove that the company is at fault in some way. If you tripped over your own feet, that is hardly grounds for an injury claim although it happened at work. So you have to be mindful of what constitutes an injury at work and what doesn't. Just know that if you cause the injury that you won't be able to file a claim against the company since it wasn't due to their negligence.

So if you find that your company is not employing the right safety measures, do something about it. Tell them what it is that you and the employees need. They should know this considering there are severe consequences for companies that don't ensure their employees are safe.

In the meantime, exercise your own safety measures so that you don't become injured. You never know when an injury may cause you to be out of work indefinitely and that can cause severe financial consequences for you in the form of medical expenses and lost wages. Workplace injuries are the most common injuries, so make sure you are careful when on the job. In the long run you'll be glad that you were.

By Cathy Shermann

Learn the newest technique in panic disorder treatment. Imagine never having to experience the horrifying feelings that come along with a panic attack. Now, it can be possible through the use of many techniques and medication available in the market today. In fact, there are some e-books present that guide you how to effectively stop and prevent panic attacks.

What is a panic attack?

To treat panic attack, it's important to know what it is first. A panic attack occurs when an individual goes into a panic episode that usually begins abruptly and without warning, peaks in about 10 minutes, and lasts for about a few minutes, a half hour, or even longer. This is considered as a very disabling condition since it prevents the suffering individual from participating in normal events. It could even lead to avoidance of activities associated with feelings of panic in the past.

What are the symptoms of a panic attack?

One can easily spot panic attack. Panic attacks are usually characterized by a racing heart, dizzy spells, sweating, trembling, tightness of throat and chest, shortness of breath, nausea, trouble swallowing, hot flashes and dizziness.

Why should you get a panic disorder treatment?

Nobody wants to go through life without enjoying and truly living it. If you have experienced a panic attack, then you know how it can be very disabling for you. You won't get to participate in normal activities that stress you, such as driving, going to job interviews, and such. Your life and enjoyment could be put on hold because of your recurring panic attacks.

Recommended Treatment

There are now various techniques and methods to treat panic attack. In fact, there is a new technique that promises results without ever having to rely on outdated anxiety techniques like 'deep breathing' and 'positive affirmations'. The technique only takes seconds to implement, and you can do it anytime, anywhere and wherever you want. It does not use hypnosis, and it does not let you follow complicated 30 step programs that bring about only minor improvements. These techniques are usually available in e-books online, and if you want to try out this new technique, then consider getting an e-book about this.

Breaking the Panic Disorder Pattern

It's also important to know how it occurs. Usually, just the forethought of having a panic attack is enough to start a wave cycle of anxiety. As a matter of fact, its foundation is already laid down way before you experience the outward signs and symptoms. And with the foundations laid down, even the slightest stimulus can trigger and launch the panic attack into full blown motion.

The sooner the attack is treated, the better. If you stop fearing a panic attack, then most definitely, you will learn to get rid of the disorder.

To seriously stop the disorder, try a panic disorder treatment. Stop obsessive worrying. Now, you don't have to foster unwanted thoughts and overwhelming fears that something dreadful is going to happen. You can break free from this disease if you choose too. Remember, you are not alone. And if you want to enjoy life's pleasures as it is, get treatment now.

Using Criminal History Background Checks can Protect You & Your F

By Greg Tredan

There are many articles out there that will tell you that you can get free criminal history background checks done. They make it sound very easy and quick, but don't believe this. The problem is that they take forever to do and the accuracy is less than perfect.

If your time is important, then this is probably not the way to go. There are options that won't require you to give up a full month of your life. Here are better options that you can use to check the criminal history of someone.

Doing something for free is not always the best way to go. This is the case when it comes to criminal history background checks. You will have to go through all the public records databases for all 50 states and that even sounds time consuming. This is not an easy task and it can be very frustrating.

There are two better options that you can use. One is a bit expensive and the other one is very reasonable and fast. Either one will get the job done and get you good, accurate information.

The first choice would be to go with a private investigator. They are known for getting good and accurate information about anybody. However, they do charge a nice large fee so if you are not looking to spend a few hundred dollars to get a criminal background check, then this is not your option.

Using the private investigator can give you much more information than just the criminal history, though. They can find out just about anything on anybody and that is what they specialize in. Just know that it is not cheap, but if you want more information than the criminal history of a person, then it might not be a bad option for you.

The second option, which is recommended, is to use an online database for criminal history background checks. As long as you have the name of the person, a birth date, and a social security number you can do a full background check including all 50 states for a very reasonable price. This is something I would never over look when hiring a new employee at my business or around my home, especially with contractors.

Since this is inexpensive and will help to protect your and your company it should always be done. I would make sure to get a criminal history check on anybody I hired for my business or for working around my home. It is ultimately your choice, but if you choose not to you might lose some money or someone could be harmed.

When looking to have an online service obtain divorce records for you, you get nothing for nothing! What you will get is rerouted to a site that will ask you to pump in the name of the person that you are trying to check out. Once you do that and hit enter, you will quickly get a list of matches and be told that they have some dirt, but to get it you are going to have to pay for it. So much for free.

In all honesty, the fee's are usually pretty reasonable and most will offer a long term discount if you purchase the addition right then and there. If you plan on doing more searches, it is probably a good idea to buy the package. Of course, none of really want to spend money on something like this unless we absolutely have to, is there a way to get this done online for free?

Yes and no. You can start the process online for free, but you can't finish it. Most states and counties have their own sites that you can go to and request free records information. You can download the right forms and then send them off and wait to get it back in the mail. Going this route can take, well, as long as it takes. We all know how quickly the government works. Sooner or later it will show up in your mailbox.

Two options, you choose what works best for you. If you have the time and a tight pocketbook, you are going to want to fill out the forms and mail them in and deal with the wait. If you have the cash or climb up the walls when you don't know something, pay the fee and get the records in what usually takes a couple of seconds.

From High School Spanish to A Career

By Neal Walters

I didn't study Spanish first, but actually Latin in high school. After learning the complexities of Latin, Spanish was a breeze. It was also more fun, because we moved to West Texas were people atually speak the language.

It always amazes me that people talk about taking a language class in high school, then graduate without actually being able to speak any of the language. After a year or two pass, they can't seem to speak a word of it. In our classes, the teacher always made us practice actual conversations, and I believe that helped to make the language stick.

During high school, I had two labor-type jobs, so I got to work with several Spanish speakers. I can't repeat many of the "colorful metaphors" that I learned, but it was a good experience. It actually did help reinforce what I was learning in school.

Every summer, our Spanish teacher took a group to Mexico city. Travel is, of course, a great way to further one's language skills. I took lot's of pictures, created a scrapbook accompanied with an audio tape, and got three hours credit for the trip from a nearby community college.

When I went to college, I took CLEP tests - advanced placement tests for Spanish. They actually awarded me 14 college credits from my test results. Wow - that saved me one entire semester in college.

During my Bachelor's in Business, I took three more Spanish classes. One was in Spanish conversation, and the other two were Spanish literature, where the teacher spoke in Spanish, we took notes in Spanish, and of course the tests were in Spanish.

Then, back in the early 1980s, I tried some French, Portuguese, and Hebrew, using the Pimsleur system. After trying other courses that didn't work, I was very impressed with how easy Pimsleur was. I made two trips to Brazil, in which I was able to "convert" my Spanish into Portuguese by learning a few additional words.

Finally, in 1995 I got to live and work in a Spanish-speaking destination, San Juan, Puerto Rico. While I could have used English on the job, I tried when possible to use Spanish, and the co-workers were encouraging. I was there about nine months, and often found myself starting to "think" in Spanish instead of English. I would have learned even more if I had stayed in someone's home, instead of living by mself.

After studying a few more languages, I have learned what works and what doesn't. I decided to create my own Spanish online learning community. We have several native Spanish speakers supporting our forum and creating short lessons.

How To Retrieve Illinois Criminal Records?

By Jed Elaine

llinois criminal records are part of the public domain, entitling anyone to have access to these. Despite however being public records, the right to individual privacy is taken into account and the use of any information derived from these records is the subject of stringent laws and regulations. Using the information obtained for conducting a background check for employment purposes for example, would require prior consent from the person involved.

The first stop for any search of Illinois arrest records would be the Illinois State Police where information relating to all criminal matters is held.Any search there however, will involve payment of a non-refundable fee of $16.00. Apart from the State Police, you could also try one of the state Circuit Courts. A database is also held at Jackson County where searches can be conducted after payment of a $12.95 fee.

All law enforcement agencies are required to keep their criminal record databases regularly updated and well maintained. Any information collected will usually be shared with other law enforcement agencies and, as is often the case, with courts and even certain individuals. Records are usually updated at regular intervals, quarterly, monthly or even daily, depending on the typical operating procedure of the person in charge of these updates. The quality of arrest records information will depend on how up to date the database is and how well this is maintained.

Statistics would indicate that Illinois criminal records show a higher arrest rate than the national average over the recent years. Despite this statistic, the overall number of arrests in the state has shown a decline. Despite this statistic, the overall number of arrests in the state has shown a decline. In rough figures, this is approximately a 28% decrease in the number of arrests made over a 12 year period.

As with almost anything nowadays, the preferred route to searching Illinois criminal records is the internet. If the bureaucratic process becomes too time consuming with government agencies, private information providers are there to help. These commercial providers are also able to access private and proprietary networks as well as the more readily available public databases, making their services both practical and accurate. Search results can usually be downloaded within a matter of minutes.

Beamed Energy Propulsion: Future Space Transportation

By Andrew V. Pakhomov

Beamed Energy Propulsion or, in brief, BEP, is a part of rocket science. However, you dont need to be a rocket scientist to get its idea, it is very simple, and I will explain it to you in the next several paragraphs.

The essence of rocket science is the principle of reactive motion. Cars on the highway are pushing pavement and move against it, swimmer pushes with his limbs (or fins) the water, and swims. Space has nothing to push from, because space is empty. So rocket pushes off its own exhaust formed by burning hydrogen with oxygen. Of course, since the space is a vacuum, everything (fuel, burner, tanks, cryogenics, combustion chamber) must be carried onboard.

Rockets cargo space is very expensive. Why? Because with so many elements onboard: fuel, oxidizer, cryogenics, tanks, lines, you name it, there is a small (and very expensive room) for the payload. If we could only find a way to separate the heavy energy source from the rocket, the gain in efficiency of such rocket will be tremendous.

Such separation will be done, if we could beam energy towards the rocket from a remote power station. The rocket will collect the beam and focus it on a "fuel". High-power beam of photons (laser, microwave, x-ray, whatever) when focused on solid matter (even slightly) evaporate and ionize such matter in an instant. I.e. the energy density in such focus is much tighter, than in the heat generated by burning hydrogen. The beam-riding rocket will remain the rocket, it still will need to push from its own exhaust, but this will be much more energetic exhaust, comparing to hydrogen burners! Also, such rocket will be much lighter.

Driven by a high-power photon beam rocket will be composed of very light focusing mirrors, relatively small (energy efficient) solid propellant and, voila: the rest will be payload! Forget heavy liquefied gases (oxygen and hydrogen), cryogenics, fuel tanks and lines, combustion chambers, etc.: Payload, Propellant and Photons, Period! Arthur Kantrowitz, the founding father of laser propulsion, called it 4P Rule.

Can efficiency of beam-driven rocket be compared to hydrogen burner? Yes, this can be done with scientific precision! For example, current price per lb. of a payload delivered to low earth orbit is $10,000. Calculations (repeated many time by independent researchers worldwide) show that with the laser propulsion space delivery price will be reduced to $100 per pound of a payload! It is a hundredfold profit!

In addition to laser beams, other types of energy transfers using microwave, x-ray and even particle beams are getting explored for BEP. The number of in-lab demonstrations of BEP principles grows every year, and the day when we will achieve in-space BEP demonstration becomes inevitable. Of course, there are still a plenty of scientific and engineering problems which should be solved before BEP will bring us its benefits. However, the days for first practical use of beamed-energy propulsion are near.
