Online business: Before You Start

By Bate Dulin

Before even considering starting a online, or work at home business there are some very important questions you must ask yourself. Can I spend the time, effort, commitment and energy It takes to succeed? When you are your own boss you must rely on yourself to motivate, to take charge, thats right, just like your old boss. I don't know anyone who will pay anybody for doing nothing.

Lets face it if it sounds too good to be true then lt probably ain;t! Many home business fail not because of the business but the employee, in this case you. "HIGHLY MOTIVATED", "SELF STARTER", "HARD CHARGER" are just phrases sure, but they apply to work habits not people. Am I all these things and more, if so a home business might be the nitche you've been looking for.

Perhaps a friend or family member has experience working as a succussfull home business. This is a much better source for advice than an actor on television who is simply reading copy from a paid writer, take any testsmonials you see with a grain of salt. Look close to home for an unbiased opinion from someone that you know and trust personally. Trusted advice is only usefull if you use it.

When thinking about starting a business you must put yourself in the position of a Human Resourses worker. After all what you are doing is submitting a job application to yourself. If you lie on a job application you might still get the job but chances are you will be found out by your employer. The same is true for a self evaluation, honesty is really the only policy.

Once you've thought enough about you it's time to consider the other side of the coin. Some companies really don't care about you to the extent of running a scam on you. How do you know who the good guys are. Take the time to do research on the company. Many local law enforcement agencys now have computer fraud departments which make their findings available free online-ah the irony. Consult the Better Business Bureau for complaints against any company you consider, in addition check the phonebook for the local FBI office as they monitor computer theft as well as fraud. All these resourses are available to you with little or no effort so use them.

Home businesses are on the rise for a number of reasons, the biggest by far is making money. It also allows you the freedom lacking in the traditional workplace. Most people succeed because they find the right pairing of their own skills with a company which allows them to prosper. It's never easy to find that particular job with that certain company but it is possible. Through some soul searching, research, and good common sense, it is possible to reap the benifits of working at home.
