Church Suits for Men

By Amy P. Cunningham

It has always been the tradition to wear your best clothing to church on Sunday and this tradition is still practiced today. Of course for a man this would mean a suit but not just any suit it is a special suit that is even more special unlike the one he wears for business purposes. We all like to feel a little special on days we attend church and wearing the same clothes that you wear everyday certainly would not make you feel special. This why a man should have a church suit.

This would be basically a well designed suit, formal in appearance with the correct additional items such as shirt and tie. Although Sunday morning church has now become a much more social affair, shaking hands with the priest is still considered a formal part of the proceedings.

A hat can be worn if preferred. You should try to match the color with the suit. Nothing too fancy or extravagant would be suitable, neither would anything cheap and tacky. Smaller hats without too wide a brim are best.

The shirt that a man wears with his church suit should be reserved in its color and nothing flashy. Most shirts that are worn with a suit and tie have collars that button so you want to make sure that these are buttoned. Then again in this day and time many churches have a much more relaxed atmosphere and find that allowing shirts without ties are acceptable as well. This certainly remains true of the younger parishioners.

If your church has a more laid back atmosphere than by all means you can attend without a tie and still look sharp in your church suit.

You should follow the same rules for wearing shoes as you would at any other time when wearing the same suit, even if you?re not wearing a tie. Black polished shoes with a dark suit is the correct fashion.

If white or cream colored suits are your choice, than white or tan shoes are advised. Though your aren't in the office, church is still a social occasion, and it's nice to look smart and feel comfortable.

Watches, rings, and other jewerly should be subtle and match well. Neckalces and pendants ought to be worn tucked inside the shirt. Discretion is wise, so as to not distract other worshippers.

I love men's church suits. I love to collect them as much as I can.
